Attorney III (Will consider Attorney IV) - Department of Transportation (Fresno) Under the general direction of a Deputy Chief Counsel, Assistant Chief Counsel and/or Attorney Supervisor, the Attorney Ill studies, interprets and applies laws, court decisions, and other authorities in the preparation of moderately difficult and/or complex cases, opinions and briefs; prepares and presents cases for trial; and/or does a variety of transactional work. The Legal Division is looking for well-qualified and highly motivated trial attorneys to join our Fresno Legal Office to litigate tort cases. Are you looking to join a dynamic legal practice providing full service, support, advice, and representation to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). The transportation sector touches all aspects of daily life and the economy, in California and nationally. Caltrans is responsible for 50,000 lane miles of highway and employs 22,000 people throughout the State. To support such an extensive enterprise, Caltrans’ Legal Division is comprised of nearly 165 attorneys in five offices statewide, including its headquarters office near the State Capitol in Sacramento, as well as in Oakland, Los Angeles, San Diego and Fresno. As an employee of the State of California, the total compensation and benefits are excellent. This includes holidays, vacation and sick leave (or annual leave), health, dental, vision and pension benefits. Telework may be available, but attorneys are expected to report to the office in Fresno and appear in person at depositions, court hearing, etc. throughout the State. “Employees in this classification may be eligible for a Recruitment Hire-Above Minimum Authorization salary rate commensurate to CalHR salary laws, rules, and regulations."
