Laboratory Assistant

Assists with receiving, identifying, accessioning, processing, transporting and storing specimens. Operates laboratory equipment and performs routine instrument maintenance, troubleshooting and minor repairs. Performs quality assurance activities. Maintains adequate stock of supplies and manages the inventory by transporting and distributing supplies. Performs other duties as assigned. Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and ability to work with minimal supervision Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Ability to complete time sensitive tasks according to protocols. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at one time. High School Graduate Recognized national certification certificate, (i.e. ASPT, ASCP) preferred. Requires manual dexterity and visual acuity when handling specimens and utilizing instrumentation. Ability to safely handle potentially infectious patient specimens, carcinogenic substances, odorous and other hazardous materials to which they me exposed. Requires frequent sitting or standing. Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds at times.
