RMP Metals Buyer

I. Position Description The purpose of this position is to procure spent lead acid batteries and other scrap lead units for Ecobat’s three US facilities to ensure the facilities can meet their production goals while ensuring the prices we pay for material are similar to or better than published market index’s. This position reports to the Director of North America Commercial and performs the following duties. II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Procurement Strategy and Planning Contribute and collaborate with Commerical senior management to define procurement strategy for spent battery / scrap lead purchasing targets to ensure recycling plants receive metal to meet production goals. Procurement Performance Source and purchase spent lead batteries / lead scrap metal from existing suppliers and vendors. Negotiate prices and terms of purchase agreements, including delivery (INCO) terms, to ensure that the price paid for spent batteries are consistent with published market index’s and within approved levels. Collaborate with the Ecobat Transportation team to ensure material procured can be delivered in a timely manner, and that freight costs to pick up material are considered in purchase price. Ensure SAP system and plant facilities maintain accurate records of transactions and inventory in internal warehouses to aid in material planning needs. Stay informed about market trends, prices, and regulations affecting the scrap metal industry and spent lead acid battery industry. Develop and maintain relationships with new suppliers / vendors so that a diverse portfolio of suppliers can be utilized for material. Participate in recording supplier interactions through ZOHO system including quantity and price of material. Work on behalf of our suppliers to resolve internal issues or disputes on delivered purchases. Customer Relationship Management Cultivate strong relationships with spent battery / scrap lead supplier base; including regular discussions to understand their business performance to aid in our understanding of market changes. Provide internal support in resolve vendor/supplier concerns, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction. Others Maintain a close link to the Sales & Operations Planning team to understand purchasing quantity targets for the month for each facility. Ensure new suppliers are onboarded through Exiger compliance software, and their environmental and safety standards conform to industry regulations. Maintain and manage expense account records. III. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in business, supply chain, or related field required. Preferred experience to contain previous scrap metals buying experience, and in particular, a history of procuring spent lead acid batteries from various suppliers. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to coordinate and communicate across functional and departmental lines. Ability to work effectively in scenarios with elevated stress, and comfortable with ambiguity. Open minded, with strong analytical and business skills. Organized/strong time and project management skills. Ability to travel as needed for business purposes. IV. Physical Requirements & Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
