Sr. Accountant
Position OverviewWe are seeking a detail-oriented and analytically driven Accountant to join our Logistics & Supply Chain Company. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the full cycle of financial operations tied to freight, warehousing, carrier contracts, and inventory movement. You will work cross-functionally with operations, procurement, and executive leadership to ensure financial accuracy, cost visibility, and regulatory compliance across all logistics activities. You will have the opportunity to help shape the direction of the companys financial future as well as your own, reporting directly into the CEO.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management & ReportingPrepare, analyze, and distribute monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements specific to logistics cost centers.Reconcile freight invoices, carrier billings, and warehouse charges against purchase orders and contracts.Monitor and report on key logistics KPIs including cost-per-shipment, freight spend variance, and demurrage charges.Maintain accurate general ledger entries for all logistics-related transactions including accruals and adjustments.Budgeting & Cost ControlPartner with internal partners to develop annual departmental budgets and rolling forecasts.Identify cost-saving opportunities through variance analysis and trend reporting across carriers, lanes, and modes.Track capital expenditures for fleet, equipment, and warehouse infrastructure.Accounts Payable & ReceivableManage end-to-end processing of carrier and vendor invoices, ensuring accuracy and timely payment within contract terms.Resolve billing disputes with freight carriers, 3PLs, and customs brokers in a timely manner.Monitor aging reports and coordinate collections for logistics-related receivables.Compliance & AuditEnsure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and applicable federal/state transportation regulations.Support internal and external audits by providing documentation, reconciliations, and explanations of logistics transactions.Maintain accurate records for customs, duty drawback, and cross-border trade compliance.Systems & Process ImprovementLeverage ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) and TMS platforms to automate and streamline financial workflows.Collaborate with IT and operations teams on system integrations between financial and logistics platforms.Recommend and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and data integrity.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.2–4 years of accounting experience, with at least 1 year in a logistics, transportation, or supply chain environment.Strong working knowledge of GAAP and general ledger accounting principles.Proficiency with ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling).Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.Preferred QualificationsCPA certification or active CPA candidacy.Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) such as MercuryGate, Oracle TMS, or SAP TM.Familiarity with freight audit and payment processes, customs brokerage accounting, or duty drawback claims.Experience in a high-volume, fast-paced distribution or 3PL environment.Knowledge of international trade finance and Incoterms.Compensation & BenefitsCompetitive base salary commensurate with experience ($65,000–$85,000).Annual performance-based bonus up to 10% of base salary.Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance.Paid vacation, 10 paid holidays, and 5 sick days annually.This job is an in office position.
