Software Database Architect

PeerSource is currently recruiting for a Software Database Architect on a Contract-to-Hire basis. This role is hybrid remote based out of Loveland, CO. Full benefits are offered during the contract period.SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Database Architect to join an Agile software engineering team developing a complex enterprise software platform within the medical industry. This role will lead the modernization of the organization's application data architecture, consolidating multiple legacy databases into a scalable, unified platform centered on PostgreSQL and Azure SQL. Working closely with Software Architects and engineering teams, this individual will design data models, define application data access strategies, and establish the long-term database architecture that supports modern API-driven applications.ResponsibilitiesDesign and evolve the organization's database architecture to support scalable, high-performance software applications.Develop strategies to consolidate multiple legacy relational databases into a unified PostgreSQL or Azure SQL platform.Design logical and physical data models, schemas, and database structures that support long-term product scalability and maintainability.Define data abstraction layers between software applications, APIs, and underlying database platforms to enable flexible application architecture.Partner closely with Software Architects and .NET engineering teams to ensure database designs align with application architecture and modernization initiatives.Evaluate existing Oracle database environments and develop migration and modernization strategies.Establish database architecture standards, modeling practices, and design guidelines while providing architectural guidance around scalability, indexing, and performance optimization.Participate in architecture reviews, technical planning, and Agile development activities across the engineering organization.Required Skills10+ years of experience designing enterprise relational database architectures supporting software applications.Expert-level experience with PostgreSQL along with experience designing solutions using Azure SQL.Familiarity with Oracle databases, including modernization and migration initiatives.Strong understanding of relational database design, normalization, indexing, query optimization, and application data access architecture.Experience designing data abstraction layers between software applications, APIs, and relational databases.Ability to collaborate effectively with Software Architects and engineering teams in Agile development environments.Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline preferred.Experience supporting modern .NET application architectures, cloud-native applications, distributed systems, or regulated software environments is preferred.H1 sponsorship is not available.PeerSource is a nationwide technology recruiting firm that prioritizes building strong relationships with the talented professionals we are fortunate to serve.
