Brief DescriptionControl Systems Engineering TechnicianThe GBS Group has an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Technician to join either our San Diego Engineering Office. The GBS Group designs and delivers high technology services and solutions to most advanced naval and maritime ships, as well as to special purpose platforms and assets. As an Engineering Technician with GBS, you will work both independently and with a team of designers and engineers on complex projects related to Naval ship platforms. The position will troubleshoot and assist ships forces in navigation systems and associated electrical component aboard US Naval Vessels. Direct training of ships personnel and support staff and life cycle support functions will be accomplished. This position will also contribute real value by assisting in the development of future systems for HM&E Machinery Control Systems for U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, Army and Military Sealift Ships supported by the U.S. Navy.Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited ToAssist in the troubleshooting and repair of existing navigation/steering systems to include electrical and mechanical interfaces.Knowledge on operation, maintenance and repair of Electronic Chart and Display Information Systems (ECDIS) and Integrated Bridge Systems (IBS) to include hands on experience.Onboard ships assistance to include troubleshooting assistance and training of shipboard personnel in the operation of and maintenance of these systems.Review of legacy systems and drawings to perform troubleshooting and assist ships force.Read and interpret engineering drawings in support of wiring, troubleshooting and testing.Use of diagnostics tools and instruments.Identify and solve problems related to ship systems design and equipment installations and develop field modifications for correction.Provide trip reports to include technical documentation of problems and possible system repairs.Review and development of technical documentation including technical manuals and systems equipment lists.Work in a team environment interfacing with various stake holders to include planning yards, shipyards, installation teams and ships force.Interface with Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division (NSWCPD) technical codes to assist in documentation of and provide repair feedback.QualificationsCandidates for this position must possess the following professional experience and qualifications: Graduate from military A school, Trade School, or Industrial experience. 5 to 10 years experience with Navy or shipboard equipment Independent problem-solving ability a plus. Ability to communicate and report findings both written and verbal. Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level government clearance (U.S. Citizenship required). Ability to travel up to 40%Physical / Mental RequirementsProlonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.Reasonable troubleshooting skillsBasic and advanced math computational skillsUnderstand and interpret electrical drawing and schematicsAbility to stand for prolonged periods of time, lift a minimum of 50lbs and walk up and down stairs numerous times.Ability to work in confined spaces and in extreme temperatures.Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the (Naval/ Maritime) facility or shipMust be able to squat, lift, stretch, and bend in order to reach all areas of the facility.Must be able to work in and on overhead structures, as well as below machinery.Requires kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders or scaffolding.Must be able to see color to discern color-coded wiringEEO StatementThe GBS Group is an equal-opportunity employer.
