Data Center Technician

About the Role: We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data Center Technician with strong expertise in structured cabling, specifically in CAT6a and fiber optics, as well as experience with rack and stack installation. This role is critical in supporting our data center operations by ensuring the efficient deployment and maintenance of network infrastructure, including cabling, hardware installations, and connectivity troubleshooting. Key Responsibilities: Structured Cabling Installation: Install, terminate, and test structured cabling systems, including CAT6a and fiber optic cables, following industry standards (TIA/EIA-568, TIA-942) and project specifications. Rack and Stack: Physically install and organize IT equipment (servers, routers, switches, and other hardware) into data center racks while ensuring appropriate power and network connectivity. Cable Management: Implement effective cable management solutions to maintain an organized and efficient environment, ensuring all cables are labeled and routed cleanly. Testing and Troubleshooting: Perform testing of copper and fiber cabling using appropriate test equipment (e.g., Fluke testers) to ensure connectivity meets specifications. Troubleshoot any issues related to cabling, hardware installation, or connectivity. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of cabling layouts, rack configurations, and network schematics. Ensure all moves, adds, and changes (MACs) are properly documented. Support: Assist in troubleshooting hardware, network issues, and deployment of new hardware as needed. Standards Compliance: Ensure all installations meet relevant standards and guidelines for data centers (BICSI, NEC, etc.). Collaboration: Work closely with network engineers, systems administrators, and other data center personnel to meet project deadlines and ensure smooth operations. Required Skills and Qualifications: Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a data center environment with a focus on structured cabling, CAT6a, and fiber optics. Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of structured cabling standards, fiber optics installation and termination, and rack/stack methodologies. Certifications (Preferred): BICSI Installer Certification, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent certifications. Physical Ability: Must be able to lift 50 lbs., work on ladders, and in tight spaces as needed to install hardware and cabling. Tools Proficiency: Experience with cable testers, crimpers, punch-down tools, and other relevant installation tools. Attention to Detail: Meticulous approach to installations with a focus on precision and quality. Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills for documenting installations and troubleshooting processes. Team Player: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and collaborate effectively with a team. Job Type: Full-time Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour Expected hours: 40 per week Schedule: 8 hour shift Monday to Friday Work Location: In person
