Legal Assistant DATE: December 30, 2025 CLOSING DATE: UNTIL FILLED POSITION: Legal Assistant DEPARTMENT: Public Defender’s Office LOCATION: Oconee office located at 115 Brown’s Square Drive, Walhalla, SC. Responsibilities: The Legal Assistant supports attorneys in the Public Defender’s Office by providing legal, administrative, and client-focused assistance. This position plays a critical role in ensuring effective representation of indigent clients while maintaining ethical standards and confidentiality. Requirements: Knowledge of: South Carolina Laws Court procedures Paralegal procedures Criminal justice system Microsoft Office Defender Data client database Investigative methods Skills: Written and verbal communication via in-person, phone, and email contact Analytical thinking Attention to details Listening Public speaking for presentations Clerical and organization procedures to maintain documents and reports Report writing Required Licenses or Certifications: Valid Driver’s License Notary Public Certification MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Required Education and Experience Associate’s degree, with no experience required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
