Senior Estimating Manager
MCL Construction is seeking a dedicated and experienced Preconstruction Manager to oversee day-to-day management of our preconstruction efforts. This role involves supporting the Director of Preconstruction in tasks such as quality control of deliverables, managing team workloads, and leading large-scale preconstruction projects. The Preconstruction Manager will guide internal and external partners through the preconstruction and design phases, from initial concept to project kickoff, aligning with MCL’s core values: Passionate, Thorough, Dedicated, and Respect.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential functions of the role include, but are not limited to, the following:
Project Estimating 50% of time
Manage and extensive pipeline of diverse, ground-up and renovation projects.
Collaborate with owners, architects, and MCL personnel on construction projects throughout the many phases of project development and execution.
Prepare and analyze cost models during the preconstruction phase and/or bidding period.
Assemble General Conditions in collaboration with MCL’s operations team.
Foster and enhance MCL relationships with owners and architects.
Participate in meetings with owners, architects, MCL personnel, subcontractors and others in pursuit and execution of MCL work.
Participate in RFP and Interview Process on assigned projects
RFP & Interviews 10% of time
Participate in RFP and Interview Process on assigned projects
Support Request for Proposal development and final deliverable creation including creative writing and interviewing efforts.
Departmental Leadership 30% of time
Manage the efforts of the Preconstruction/Estimating staff as it prepares detailed estimates (conceptual, schematic, design development, guaranteed maximum price (GMP), and lump sum).
Manage workloads and schedules of self and subordinates to meet deadlines.
Attend Preconstruction Manager’s meeting and contribute to strategic discussion
Attend and contribute to Network Meetings as applicable
Hold Regular One on One Meetings with assigned team members
Business Operations (Department Level) 10% of time
Maintaining departmental policies and SOPs
Implementation of preconstruction continuous improvement initiatives
In collaboration with MCL’s project and operations teams look for opportunities to lead process improvements using Lean, virtual design and construction (VDC), integrated project delivery (IPD), and other progressive practices.
Remain up to date on trends in the industry with respect to estimating methods and technology, methods of construction and material, construction costs and working rules

KNOWLEDGE
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering or related field
Ten or more years experience in Preconstruction/Estimating, with five or more years in management and leadership roles

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, talk, hear, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch or crawl. The employee may be required to drive to construction work sites other than the main office location. The employee may be required to lift 25 pounds.
Work Environment
The noise level in the work environment is a typical office setting unless at a construction site. This position requires occasional visits to active construction sites.
