Logistics company providing warehousing, cross docking, and final mile delivery services throughout the Mid-Atlantic region is seeking a Warehouse Associate/Dispatch professional to work out of our warehouse in the Roanoke, VA area.
Schedule: Monday - Friday 5 am - 11 am.
This role serves as the operational and technical support backbone of the terminal, supporting warehouse coordination, dispatching, scanning accuracy, driver communication, and real-time exception resolution. This is not an entry-level dispatch role. Candidates must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, tech-enabled logistics environment and supporting daily operations.
Responsibilities Include:
Report to and support the depot Operations Manager in the proper and professional management of the depot. In the absence of the Operations Manager, serve as acting Ops Manager for brief periods.
Oversee and participate in the daily process of inbound receiving, sorting, scanning, and accurate accounting of all customer materials in compliance with company policies, federal laws, and customer requirements.
Monitor the unloading of all materials from daily line-hauls; ensure materials are staged in an organized manner for counting and sorting.
Oversee orderly movement of customer product from line haul receiving to Independent Contractor (IC) drivers in an efficient and cost-effective fashion.
Ensure facility is kept in a clean and presentable status at all times, including sweeping, dusting, and removal of trash.
Dispatch & Systems Support:
Dispatch and monitor daily routes and driver activity.
Answer incoming dispatch calls as needed.
Communicate proactively with drivers regarding route changes, scan issues, and app or system errors.
Support IC reporting requirements as directed.
Collect POD (Proof of Delivery) data collection and data entry as directed.
Monitor and review dispatch screens and address issues involving deliveries or pickups not on schedule.
Notify Customer Service regarding any scheduling conflicts.
Data, Systems & Exception Handling:
Perform and validate scanning accuracy, data entry, and exception handling (OS&D, missing scans, late events).
Troubleshoot basic TMS and driver app issues and escalate system issues appropriately to IT and Operations leadership.
Maintain accurate operational records and reports.
Serve as a key operational liaison between drivers, Operations Manager, IT, Customer Service, and Accounting.
Support warehouse operations as needed during daily activities and system transitions.
Minimum / Required Qualifications:
Experience in a warehouse, dispatch, logistics, transportation, or related operations environment with knowledge of product receiving, materials handling, shipping, and dispatching.
Strong technical aptitude and comfort learning new software systems.
Proficiency with data entry, scanning systems, and Microsoft Office / Google Workspace.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Ability to troubleshoot, problem-solve, and prioritize under time pressure.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Able to meet physical demands of warehousing, including bending and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Reliable transportation required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with a Transportation Management System (TMS).
Familiarity with driver apps and real-time dispatch tools.
Prior experience supporting operational transitions or system rollouts
Experience operating warehouse equipment : Fork truck, electric pallet jacks, etc.
