The Tomah VA Medical Center is filling one vacancy for a Speech-Language Pathologist.Opening Date: March 23, 2026Closing Date: September 30, 2026Cut-Off Date: March 30, 2026This announcement will remain open until the closing date September 30, 2026. The cut-off date is March 30, 2026. The cut-off date will be used to evaluate candidates for the initial available vacancy.Major duties include but not limited to:ClinicalEvaluates via consultative referral, develops, and implements appropriate l therapy treatment to address assessment of swallowing capabilities, cognitive abilities/limitation, receptive/expressive language difficulties, and/or speech intelligibility challenges.Administers and interprets recognized tests and measurements to determine baseline level of functioning and treatment applications which will enable patients to achieve valued functional outcomes.Independently plans, coordinates, and carries out treatment program and reevaluates and adjusts treatment as appropriate.Responsible for the management and organization of the treatment area and works independently in planning and carrying out a treatment program to meet complex treatment objectives.Conducts and documents PMRS screening assessments in compliance with Joint Commission Standards making recommendations for treatment to meet a wide variety of complex rehabilitation needs and responds to requests/referrals for treatment.Monitors patient's response to program, summarizes and analyzes patient's performance, and modifies program and goals when necessary to meet patient's needs as situations and performance changes in order to attain projected functional outcomes.Regularly writes thorough, yet succinct progress notes per facility and professional standards in the computerized patient record system evaluating patient's response to treatment, analyzing treatment plans, progress, symptoms, attitudes, and reactions.Consults with physician and other health care practitioners related to diagnostic evaluation and treatments.EducationAttends in-service training programs, lectures, and staff meetings to remain familiar with current occupational therapy practices.Provides orientation/training of medical staff specific to speech language pathology services.Provides patient and family education.Serves as consultant to other therapists and staff in specialty area to solve complex problems..AdministrationAdheres to established standards, policies, and procedures set forth by section, service, and medical center.Participates in quality assurance review including chart reviews, peer reviews, patient care monitoring, and patient satisfaction surveys.Maintains personal productivity and assists the section in maintaining/increasing effectiveness and efficiency in meeting its objectives.Responsible for providing and maintaining adequate supplies and equipment according to the needs of the occupational therapy clinic program and patient treatment.Other duties as assigned.Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am to 4:30pmTelework: Not AvailableVirtual: This is not a virtual position.Functional Statement #: GS12 02889FRelocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not AuthorizedPermanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized
