We look for individuals who will thrive in a team environment, be committed to accomplishing a common goal, and aren't afraid to learn new things and have some fun along the way.  Position Overview: As the Team Lead for the Systems Engineering Developer Team, you will oversee a dynamic and experienced team responsible for the secure bundling, distribution, deployment, configuration, preservation, and state control of NISC's evolving product offerings. In this role, you will be pivotal in providing high-quality installation and support services to internal employees across various NISC departments, including Development, Quality Assurance, Training, and Demonstration Environments. You will lead efforts in system and software installations, configurations, upgrades, hardware troubleshooting, and performance analysis within a Linux/Java/Hybrid-Cloud environment. Your role also involves collaborating closely with multiple office and virtual locations to address technical needs and support internal systems effectively.   Work Schedule: Hybrid from one of our office locations: Cedar Rapids, IA Lake Saint Louis, MO Mandan, ND  Hybrid Schedule: Minimum of working 3 day per week out of an office location and ability to work up to all 5 days a week from an office location.Required Days from an Office Location: Tuesday and Wednesday - the third required day will be up to the candidate and their supervisor to choose Essential Functions & Desired Skillsets: As the Team Lead, your essential functions will encompass overseeing and guiding your team's efforts to ensure reliable, redundant, and secure computing environments, while collaborating with networking infrastructure teams.You will play a critical role in: Team Leadership and Development: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the team, identifying growth opportunities and areas for improvement. Assist with the selection and hiring of new team members, and support the Department Manager in establishing action plans for strategic projects and technical direction. Professional Skills: Ability to organize, prioritize, and adapt to change. Demonstrated initiative, accountability, and the ability to travel as necessary to meet position goals. Infrastructure Management: Develop and maintain infrastructure roadmaps in collaboration with cloud platform and development teams, ensuring they meet technical, performance, security, and capacity requirements. Operational Support and Incident Management: Coordinate with the team to provide infrastructure operational support during hosted services incidents and offer second-line support to assist member support. Ensure high-quality standards by establishing and reinforcing best practices and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Implementation and Configuration: Oversee the development, implementation, staging, installation, and configuration of internal systems, including iVUE and Connect applications. An emphasis on consistent fast automation using modern techology and public cloud services. Manage data refreshes and landscape maintenance for internal dev/test usages. Technical Issue Resolution: Analyze and resolve technical and application issues, including those related to Linux operating systems and its interactions with internal applications. Provide superior customer support to internal customers and document issues in the NISC support system. Team Technologies: Linux (SLES, other), Bash, Python, Vue, Ansible, Java, SQL (Oracle/Postgres) Amazon Web Services (AWS), DynamoDB, SQS, EKS, EC2, Docker Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, private and public cloud IaaS, including Kubernetes, VMware, Distributed Database and Object Stores Vendor and Budget Management: Maintain relationships with hardware, software, and service providers. Assist the department manager and finance team (FinOps) in tracking ongoing public cloud expenses, including feedback loops with application stakeholders. Process Improvement and Cost Savings: Assess opportunities for process improvements and cost savings, focusing on automating and creating efficiencies in internal environment workflows.
