Director of Logistics and Transportation

Company & Position Overview:BrainWorks is partnering with a $2B+ distributor and manufacturer of heavy-duty industrial equipment to place a Director of Logistics & Transportation. This newly created role is designed to centralize, modernize, and scale statewide logistics operations supporting 20+ branch locations across Georgia. The organization moves a high daily volume of parts, rental equipment, and new machines, primarily within Georgia, with some out-of-state and international freight. Following years of strong, sustained growth, leadership is investing in a senior logistics leader who can bring structure, governance, and performance discipline to a historically decentralized environment.This role owns both the strategy and execution of logistics and transportation functions, with a mandate to build a scalable operating model and lead a multi-year transition toward a more centralized network across divisions.What You Will Be DoingAs Director of Logistics & Transportation, you will serve as the architect and operator of a statewide logistics ecosystem-balancing cost, service, safety, and scalability. This role operates at both the enterprise strategy level and the hands-on execution level, with responsibility for owned fleet, third-party carriers, brokers, dispatch, and final-mile delivery.Key focus areas include:Centralizing logistics and transportation operations across divisionsOptimizing utilization of trucks, drivers, rental assets, and third-party carriersDesigning and executing a long-term transportation and distribution strategyBuilding leadership structure, accountability, and performance metricsPartnering closely with fleet, safety, compliance, rental, parts, branch leadership, and OEM suppliersMajor Tasks, Responsibilities & Key AccountabilitiesStrategy & Network DesignCreate, sell, and execute a comprehensive logistics and transportation strategyCentralize logistics operations statewide or regionally to improve asset utilization, service levels, and cost efficiencyDesign scalable operating models to support growth across rentals, parts, and new equipmentBuild and execute a 3-5 year roadmap to bring additional transportation capabilities in-houseTransportation OperationsOversee daily movement of parts, rental equipment, and new machines across the networkOptimize routing, dispatch, load planning, and delivery schedules for both equipment and parts freightApply regulatory requirements, hours-of-service rules, and equipment constraints to drive safe and efficient operationsBalance owned fleet capacity with 3PLs, brokers, and independent contractorsVendor & Asset ManagementLead carrier selection, negotiation, performance management, and cost controlReduce fragmentation and over-reliance on third-party haulers through smarter asset planningEvaluate independent contractor management models and recommend best-fit solutionsPartner closely with fleet, safety, and compliance leaders to ensure alignmentLeadership & Team DevelopmentLead and develop a growing team of transportation managers, supervisors, coordinators, drivers, and dispatchEstablish KPIs, performance standards, and accountability across the functionBuild a leadership bench capable of scaling with the businessSystems, Analytics & Continuous ImprovementAssess, select, and implement transportation and logistics systemsEstablish dashboards and reporting to track cost, service, safety, and productivityAnalyze operational challenges and implement practical, data-driven solutionsManage budgets, forecasting, audits, and operational reviewsCompliance, Safety & RiskEnsure compliance with all federal, state, and local transportation regulationsOversee the safe execution of all freight movementsDevelop risk mitigation and contingency plans to ensure continuity of supplyEducation & ExperienceBachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field requiredMaster's degree or MBA preferredRequired Qualifications & Skills10+ years of progressive experience in logistics and transportation, including senior leadershipProven success building or transforming multi-site logistics organizations, not just operating within themExperience managing mixed transportation models (owned fleet, 3PLs, brokers, contractors)Demonstrated ability to lead change, influence stakeholders, and drive executionAnalytical mindset with strong systems, metrics, and process orientationExecutive presence with excellent written and verbal communication skillsSelf-starter mentality with an owner's mindsetPreferred QualificationsExperience in heavy equipment, rental, industrial distribution, or field service environmentsWorking knowledge of DOT regulations and heavy equipment transportationExperience centralizing decentralized operations across multiple locationsTravelApproximately 20-40%, primarily within GeorgiaWho We Are Looking ForThis role is ideal for a builder, not a caretaker.
