Housekeeper - Senior Living
Purpose:
The Housekeeper’s primary responsibility is to provide a clean, organized and sanitary environment for the residents. Housekeeping tasks are completed in both the residents’ private apartments and in the general common areas of the building.
Scope & Status: Non-Exempt
Housekeepers report directly to the Director of Facility Management and the Executive Director.
Relationships:
Works with personal assistants and nurses to support resident well-being.
Greets and assists residents and family members
Works with department directors to prepare for special events.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform and complete each essential duty satisfactorily, have sufficient communication and language skills to enable them to perform their duties and interact effectively with residents, family members and guests. An on-going training program is required. A high school diploma and/or GED is required. The employee enjoys working with the senior population and can successfully create a clean-living environment that promotes wellness. The Housekeeper models the values and core purpose of Blake Management.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Works shift as assigned. Reports to work on-time.
Reports to work in appropriate attire/uniform and wears name identification badge.
Completes assignments within the required time frame. Utilizes time management skills effectively.
Cleans resident apartments. Tasks may include, but not limited to vacuuming, dusting, mopping, cleaning kitchenette area washing dishes, cleaning mirrors, making bed, emptying trash, organizing, changing of linens, laundry, sanitizing bathroom.
Cleans offices as directed.
Cleans and sanitizes common area restrooms.
Cleans common areas (includes vacuuming, dusting, mopping, emptying trash)
Performs laundry tasks.
Reports maintenance issues to the Director of Management.
Reports pest control issues to the Director of Management.
Reports resident needs and changes of condition to the nurse and/or Administrator.
Responds to residents in a courteous and professional manner.
Stores equipment and supplies according to company policy.
Utilizes cleaning supplies and chemicals safely, responsibly and according to directions.
Attends all training and staff meetings as directed.

General Room Protocols:
Clean apartments according to assigned schedule. Cleaning chemicals may not be unsupervised or out of eye-sight at any time. Housekeeping cart must be stored in a secure storage area while not in use.
Knock on the resident’s door and introduce yourself prior to entering for each visit.
Request permission to begin house-keeping duties.
Report any barriers or challenges to performing your cleaning assignment. Reschedule as necessary. Each resident apartment must be cleaned at least once per week.
Ensure the following duties are performed during each apartment cleaning.
Wipe down and clean front door; specifically, around the door knob and at the base of the door. Remove bed linens; replace immediately with available clean linens; launder and fold linens, and towels; fold and return to proper place.
Dust all furniture; clean window sill; dust blinds.
Vacuum carpets and mop other floors. Also, vacuum hallway to ensure a clean entry path to the apartment.
Clean and sanitize bathroom. Clean mirrors. Wipe down cabinets and all surfaces that collect dust. Clean under bath mats as applicable. Report leaks and/or plumbing issues immediately.
Take precautions to reduce the risk of falls. Follow wet floor safety protocols.
Clean kitchenette areas; survey refrigerator and ensure contents are safe for consumption. Defrost freezer as necessary. Ensure pantry and cabinets are clean and organized.
Assist with removing clutter and organizing apartment; report all safety hazards. Remove trash from receptacles and replace with clean disposal bags.
Complete PTAC unit maintenance as directed (as applicable; some apartments may not have a PTAC unit).
Complete work orders for carpet that requires professional cleaning. Report additional maintenance items; such as painting needs and minor repairs.
Ask the resident if any additional service is required. Provide service and/or report the request to your supervisor.
If the resident is in the apartment, ensure that resident has pendant within reach prior to exiting the apartment.
Wipe down corridor hand-rails between assigned apartments.

Must be able to hear telephone, audible alarms, bells, and signals related to resident safety
with or without hearing devices.
Speech
Must have command of the English language sufficient to read and write and to
communicate with the residents.
Summary of Occupational Exposure: Tasks performed by the employee may involve the following risks.
Category I -- Job classification in which employee has occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens. (Infrequent)
Category II -- Activity performed without blood exposure but exposure may occur in an emergency situation. (Infrequent)
Category III -- Task/activity does not entail predictable or unpredictable exposure to blood. (Frequent)
