Job DescriptionMaintenance Mechanic at Certified ThermoplasticsRepairs and maintains tooling, machinery, and mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, pneumatic tools, production machines, building/facility, as well as preventative maintenance and emergency response by performing the following duties. Under minimum supervision, maintain, analyze and correct problems of standard and sophisticated equipment.Who are we?Founded in 1849, Ducommun is the oldest company in California. We specialize in electronic and structural systems, producing complex products and components for commercial aircraft platforms, mission-critical military and space programs, and sophisticated industrial applications.Our Certified Thermoplastics site specializes in the extrusion of engineered thermoplastic resins, compounds and alloys, including high temperature resins, flame retardant, low smoke and fume resins, glass and carbon reinforced compounds that add strength and static dissipation properties, and chemical resistance for use in harsh environments.Job Summary\nClean, inspect, and repair tooling used for plastics manufacturing and prepare for next production run.\nGeneral mechanical maintenance of various manufacturing equipment including mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.\nModify and/or adjust basic mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic systems for varied use as required by production.\nTroubleshoot and repair basic mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic system failures.\nOperates all types of conventional power tools\nLubricates, cleans, paint\nSets up and operates lathe, mill, drill press, grinder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.\nDrive forklift, arial boom lifts, scissors lifts, and small truck\nPhysical Protection and Monitoring\nInspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements. Start devices to test their performance.\nInstalls special functional and structural parts in devices.\nArc, gas, tig/mig welding\nInstall new equipment\nResponsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.\nPerforms other duties as assigned including leading projects and participation in projectcommittees\n\nRequired Skills and Qualifications\nDemonstrates an advanced knowledge of mechanical and facilities repair and maintenance.\nAbility to read, interpret, and verbally communicate documents such as safety rules, operating andmaintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.\nRead and understand complicated blueprints and specifications\nAbility to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, ordiagram form.\nMust be able to work independently and follow detailed, written instructions.\nAbility to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.\nMust be able to install, maintain, diagnose and correct problems on complicated machinery andspecialized plant equipment (i.e. plastic extrusion and fabrication equipment, automated machine tools, ect.)\nAbility to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, commonfractions, and decimals.\nKnowledge of Microsoft Software such as ability to email and search internet for parts and repairmethods.\nOccasional to frequent overtime and weekend work is required.\nRequired Experience and Education\nHigh school diploma or equivalent\n5 years' experience in machine tool field\nAbility to read mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical schematics\n5 years of successful related experience and/or training or equivalent combination ofeducation and experience\n\nWork Environment and Safety Equipment Required\nManufacturing environment\nAbility to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses and fully enclosed steel or composite toe shoes while in all manufacturing areas.
