Position: Extended Day Assistant Teacher Reports to: Extended Day CoordinatorDivision: Extended Day FLSA Status: HourlyEmployed: Part Time, Onsite, 10 mths Direct Reports: NoneJob SummaryA Brookstone Extended Day Assistant Teacher is responsible for implementing and coordinating after-school programs for children in Preschool or Grades K-5th.Key ResponsibilitiesIn coordination and collaboration with the Extended Day Coordinator, the Assistant Teacher:Plans and implements developmentally appropriate educational and recreational activities for children.Provides a safe and nurturing environment for children to learn and play.Maintains continuity in teaching, learning, classroom routines and procedures, and discipline from morning through Extended DayMonitors children's behavior and provides guidance and discipline as needed.Communicates appropriately with parents and guardians regarding children's behavior.Maintains accurate records and documentation of children's behavior.Ensures that all program equipment and materials are clean, safe, and properly stored.Maintains a consistent afternoon scheduleCoordinates transitions to Cub activities with the Extended CoordinatorCollaborates with other program staff to ensure the smooth and effective operation of the program.Participates in staff meetings, professional development opportunities, and other program-related events.Key QualificationsEducation: The ideal after-school program assistant teacher should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be patient and compassionate, and have a passion for working with children. They should also be organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask effectively.Certification in early childhood education or a related field preferredExtensive experience in providing care and instruction for childrenFull, clear, state required background checkAdditional Skills/Abilities:Ability to observe, see, hear, and respond quickly to children's needs, emergencies, and any conflicts that may occurAbility to lift 30 pounds, crouch down to the level of a student, and occasionally sit on the floorPhysical Requirements
