Principal Scientist, Peptide Chemistry

About the CompanyA soon to launch Third Rock Ventures company is seeking an experienced Peptide Scientist to lead peptide design efforts supporting discovery-stage therapeutic programs. This role will focus on peptide SAR, data interpretation, and lead optimization, working closely with project leadership and cross-functional teams.ResponsibilitiesLead and design strategies for peptide therapeutics to support early discovery programsDrive structure–activity relationship (SAR) efforts and guide molecule optimizationManage and oversee work conducted at external CRO partners, including peptide synthesis, analytics, and related studiesReview and interpret experimental data to inform molecule design and program strategyPresent program updates and recommendations to project teamsPartner closely with project leads and cross-functional teams (biology, pharmacology, DMPK, CMC) to advance programsHelp define external study plans, timelines, and priorities to support program milestonesQualificationsPhD in chemistry, chemical biology, peptide science, or related fieldSignificant experience in therapeutic peptide discoveryExpertise in metabolic or endocrine indicationsDemonstrated ability to guide molecule design and SAR strategyTrack record of contributing to advancement of discovery programsExperience managing external CRO collaborationsStrong communication skills and ability to present scientific strategy to multidisciplinary teamsRequired SkillsExperience in therapeutic peptide discovery and optimizationAbility to guide peptide design and SAR strategyStrong communication skillsExperience managing external CRO collaborationsAbility to present scientific strategy to multidisciplinary teamsLocationWith offices in Boston, San Francisco and Shanghai, the ability to work from one of these locations, but we are open to remote employment for exceptional individuals able to work collaboratively and effectivelyEqual Opportunity StatementWe are committed to diversity and inclusivity.
