JAVA Backend DeveloperID2026-3712Job LocationsUSCategoryOtherTypeRegular Full-TimeOverviewDecisionPoint Corporation is seeking a Mid-Level Software Developer - Java Backend to support our U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) Integrated Booking System (IBS) program. This role is primarily focused on the development, enhancement, and sustainment of Java-based backend applications and services that support mission-critical transportation and logistics operations.The Software Developer will design and develop backend services, APIs, integrations, and application components using Java and modern Java frameworks such as Spring Boot. The developer will work across the software development lifecycle, supporting new capabilities, system enhancements, defect resolution, integration, testing, and deployment.While exposure to front-end technologies such as Angular is beneficial, this position is best suited for a developer whose primary strength is Java backend development.The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on Java development experience, experience building and supporting RESTful services and enterprise applications, and the ability to troubleshoot complex application and integration issues in a collaborative Agile/DevSecOps environment.This position is fully remote.Duties & ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, test, enhance, and maintain Java-based backend applications and services supporting the IBS programDevelop backend solutions using Java, Spring Boot, and related Java frameworks and librariesDesign, build, maintain, and consume RESTful APIs and web servicesDevelop application business logic, service-layer components, integrations, and data-access functionalityIntegrate backend services with relational databases, external systems, and other application componentsTranslate functional and technical requirements into reliable, scalable, and maintainable software solutionsWrite clean, efficient, testable, and maintainable Java code following established coding standards and software engineering best practicesDevelop and maintain unit and integration tests to support application quality and reliabilityParticipate in peer code reviews and incorporate feedback to continuously improve code qualityTroubleshoot and resolve backend application defects, integration issues, and performance problemsAnalyze application logs and system behavior to identify root causes and implement effective solutionsSupport application integrations across system components and external interfacesContribute to CI/CD pipelines and automated build, test, and deployment processesEnsure applications comply with DoD security requirements, secure coding practices, and applicable STIG requirementsParticipate in Agile development activities, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, demonstrations, and retrospectivesDevelop and maintain technical documentation for application components, APIs, integrations, and system changesCollaborate with senior developers, technical leads, QA, DevSecOps, database, infrastructure, and other engineering teams to support successful releases and deploymentsSupport front-end integration efforts and, as needed, contribute to Angular-based application componentsQualificationsActive Secret ClearanceIAT Level II certification (CompTIA Security+ CE preferred)Minimum 3+ years of professional software development experienceStrong hands-on experience developing applications using JavaExperience with Spring Boot, Spring Framework, or comparable Java application frameworksExperience designing, developing, and consuming RESTful APIs and web servicesExperience developing backend business logic, service-layer components, and application integrationsExperience working with relational databases and SQLExperience with object-oriented design, software design principles, and common development patternsExperience writing unit and integration tests for Java applicationsExperience troubleshooting and debugging enterprise applications, APIs, and integrationsExperience using Git or similar source-control toolsExperience working in Agile software development environmentsFamiliarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practicesStrong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skillsAbility to work independently while collaborating effectively within a distributed development teamPreferred QualificationsExperience supporting USTRANSCOM, DoD, or other federal mission systemsExperience with Spring Boot-based enterprise applications or microservicesExperience developing applications using microservices architecturesExperience with cloud-based environments, particularly AWSExperience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and KubernetesExperience with messaging, asynchronous processing, or enterprise application integration technologiesFamiliarity with application security, secure coding practices, vulnerability remediation, and security scanning toolsExperience with tools such as GitLab, Jenkins, Jira, and ConfluenceExperience working in a DoD DevSecOps environmentFamiliarity with Angular, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS and the integration of front-end applications with Java REST APIsOur Equal Employment Opportunity PolicyEEO and Affirmative Action Policy: DecisionPoint Corporation is an Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer.
