Special Education TeacherReports to: Principal and Assistant PrincipalGeneral Definition of Work: To develop and implement an educational program that will effectively provide the best possible education for each childEssential Functions:Effectively implement all responsibilities associated with being a special education student case managerImplement instruction, services and supports in accordance with all federal, state and local regulations pertaining to special education.Competently implement comprehensive and individualized programming for students identified as eligible for special education in the area of autismTo guide the learning activities of each student and to provide learning situations suitable for each studentTo provide for the safety, health and well-being of each pupil in any situation in which students are committed to the teacher's careTo maintain the classroom and atmosphere which encourages learningTo evaluate each student and to report progress to parentsTo become informed about and to comply with the policies and regulations of the school division and of the local schoolTo maintain the neatness and proper care of the classroom, equipment and materialsTo keep essential records necessary for the efficient operation of the schoolTo keep abreast of recent developments in education and to show evidence of continuing professional growthTo contribute to the success of the school by maintaining interest in and developing knowledge of the total school programTo participate in the decision-making process of the school, particularly those decisions related to curriculum content or changeTo maintain a cooperative attitude toward all school personnelTo serve as a public relations agent for the school and the school systemTo cooperate with approved community groups in matters related to the welfare of the studentsTo perform such duties as are necessary for the efficient and successful operation of the school systemTo perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or his/her designeeMake reports to the principal relative to student injuries, hazardous or dangerous conditions prevailing where students are engaged in activities known or suspected child abuse, and other areas that normally concern the teacher and school officialsOther duties as apparent or assignedEducation and Job Experience: Compensation will be based on degree and experience as described in the Amherst County Public School Teachers' Salary Scale ScheduleLicense/Endorsements: Valid certification to meet state requirements with specific endorsement in the area to which assigned.Contract Period: 10 monthsFLSA Status: ExemptAmherst County Public Schools is an Equal Opportunity Employer
