Linux Systems Administrator (Junior) Low-Latency Trading Infrastructure · On-site · $65,000–$80,000 About the role We run a latency-sensitive options trading platform where microseconds matter. We're looking for a junior Linux administrator who's hungry to go deep on high-performance systems. You'll start with solid Linux fundamentals and grow into the specialized world of kernel-bypass networking and hardware tuning that powers electronic trading. This is a rare seat for an early-career admin to learn skills most people never touch. What you'll do - Administer and harden our Ubuntu 24.04 LTS fleet — provisioning, patching, user/access management, and config management- Manage virtualized infrastructure on Proxmox VE (VMs, containers, clustering, backups, storage)- Own monitoring and alerting with Checkmk — build checks, dashboards, and on-call runbooks- Support performance tuning on trading hosts: CPU pinning/isolation, NUMA layout, IRQ affinity, hugepages, and BIOS/kernel parameters- Assist senior engineers with kernel-bypass networking (DPDK) and NIC tuning for our market-data and order-routing paths- Write automation scripts (Bash/Python) and document everythingMust-have - 1–3 years hands-on Linux administration (Ubuntu/Debian preferred) – your own personal experience is acceptable here.- Comfortable in the shell: networking (TCP/IP, routing, tcpdump), systemd, storage, and log triage- Scripting in Bash and/or Python- A genuine curiosity for performance and a willingness to learn low-level systems Bonus (or eager to learn) - Proxmox or other virtualization (VMware, KVM/libvirt)- Checkmk, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar monitoring stacks- Exposure to DPDK / kernel bypass, SR-IOV, or solarflare/onload-style userspace networking- Linux performance tuning (CPU isolation, hugepages, NUMA, perf)- Networking experience- Experience in finance, trading, or any sub-millisecond environment
