Portfolio Project Manager – Lab of the FutureRemote 12-Month Contract to start $86-$90/hr based on benefits Orion Group is seeking a Portfolio Project Manager to support a high-visibility Lab of the Future initiative within a leading enterprise environment. This role provides end-to-end portfolio oversight, ensuring strategic alignment, delivery transparency, and strong governance across a complex set of programs and projects.This is a high-impact role where you will partner with cross-functional leaders to prioritize initiatives, monitor execution, and provide leadership with clear, actionable insights to drive decision-making and resource allocation. What You’ll Be DoingPortfolio Oversight & ExecutionOversee the full portfolio of programs and projects within the Lab of the Future initiativeMaintain integrated portfolio plans, milestone trackers, and delivery timelines across workstreamsTrack progress against commitments, identify risks early, and drive corrective actionsPrioritization & Strategic AlignmentLead portfolio prioritization discussions aligned to business strategy, capacity, and value realizationEnsure initiatives are aligned to enterprise goals and deliver measurable outcomesSupport evolving priorities through structured planning and resource coordinationGovernance & ReportingEstablish and support governance forums (steering committees, working groups, etc.)Manage agendas, decision logs, action tracking, and follow-ups to ensure accountabilityDeliver concise, executive-ready reporting for leadership and stakeholdersRisk & Dependency ManagementManage risks, issues, assumptions, and dependencies (RAID) across the portfolioEnsure timely escalation, mitigation planning, and resolutionDrive transparency and proactive communication across teamsStakeholder EngagementPartner with functional leaders, project owners, and SMEs to align scope, timelines, and dependenciesInfluence cross-functional teams without direct authority to drive delivery outcomesPromote consistent delivery practices and portfolio operating cadence What We’re Looking ForBachelor’s degree in Business, Project Management, Operations, or related field (or equivalent experience)5+ years of project or portfolio management experience in complex, cross-functional environmentsProven ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives with competing prioritiesStrong experience with governance, RAID management, milestone tracking, and executive reportingDemonstrated ability to influence stakeholders and drive accountability without direct authorityAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word Preferred QualificationsExperience supporting research, laboratory, technology, or innovation-driven programsPMP, PgMP, PRINCE2, Agile, or similar certificationExperience building or enhancing portfolio governance frameworksFamiliarity with PMO best practices and portfolio prioritization methodologiesExperience in regulated or matrixed enterprise environments Core CompetenciesPortfolio management & prioritizationProgram and project oversightRisk, issue, and dependency management (RAID)Governance design & facilitationExecutive reporting & communicationStakeholder engagement & influenceAnalytical thinking & problem-solvingAttention to detail & delivery rigor What Success Looks LikePortfolio priorities are clearly defined, aligned, and consistently reviewedProject and program status is accurate, transparent, and accessible to stakeholdersRisks and dependencies are identified early and resolved proactivelyGovernance forums run efficiently with clear decisions and accountabilityLeadership receives actionable insights to support decision-makingPortfolio execution remains aligned to strategic goals and business valuePeople are our business worldwide Orion Group was founded in 1987 and is now one of the largest, independent, international recruitment companies.
