We also partner with some of today’s most innovative fintech companies to create turnkey Salesforce apps that simplify and automate the loan origination process.Based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, we offer fully remote and hybrid career options; so, when you work for Northteq, you can work from anywhere!Position Summary: The Controller is a senior role that owns the financial engine of Northteq end to end from hands-on, day-to-day accounting through strategic financial planning, analysis, and board-level reporting. This person is both the operator who closes the books accurately and on time, and the strategist who turns the numbers into insight that guides the company's direction.As the steward of Northteq's financial health, the Controller takes ownership of all accounting operations, financial reporting, and financial communications to leadership and the board. The role is responsible for minimizing risk, safeguarding assets, identifying cost savings, and partnering with department leaders to hit budget targets and scale responsibly. The Controller manages our administrative/accounting support and is expected to build repeatable processes and controls as the company grows.This is a rare hybrid role: it suits someone who is comfortable in the ledger and the QuickBooks detail, and equally comfortable presenting to the leadership team and board. Responsibilities are grouped below into hands-on accounting operations and strategic finance.Essential Job Functions - Accounting Operations (hands on):Own all day-to-day accounting activities for Northteq, including:Full-cycle accounting: accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger management.Payroll processing and administration through Rippling, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely funding.Cash management: monitor balances, manage inflows/outflows, and maintain adequate liquidity.Expense management: administer company spend, review and approve expenses, and enforce spend policy.Collections: manage outstanding receivables, follow up on past-due accounts, and keep DSO in check.Own and maintain QuickBooks as the company's system of record; keep the chart of accounts clean and reporting-ready.Month-end and year-end close, account reconciliations, and journal entries.Own revenue and partner reconciliation and ARR administrationOwn professional services invoicing and reconciliationEssential Job Functions - Financial Planning, Analysis and Strategy:Budgeting & Forecasting:Create and distribute the annual budget for each group (PS, Product, Admin/Sales, HR) and for Northteq as a whole.Create and distribute ongoing forecasts for Northteq overall and for each group.Partner with leadership on hiring capacity and headcount planning against budget.Financial Controls & Process:Define financial controls including owners, process, and detail for each control.Document processes for all financial activities, enforce them, and ensure the leadership team follows them.Business Partnership & Problem Solving:Partner with leaders to diagnose problems, provide the data to explain what happened, and offer guidance on solutions.Lead the monthly variance review meeting and action plan; ensure leaders come prepared and can explain results and solutions.Financial Insight & Risk:Understand every line item in the balance sheet, cash flow statement, and P&L, and support the business with insight into what is driving change and how to solve problems.Learn the business deeply; how Northteq makes money and how each group operates so that financial recommendations and reporting are grounded in operational reality and genuinely make sense.Manage risk and preserve company assets.Essential Job Functions - Reporting and Leadership Communication:Produce and distribute monthly financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and yearly comparisons of actuals vs. forecast vs. budget at both the company level and the class/group level (PS, Product, Admin/Sales, HR).Provide monthly cash flow reporting.Build the board decks and present the company's financial position to the board.Communicate where the finances stand in leadership meetings and all-company meetings.Own the company's key performance indicators (KPIs): track, maintain, and report on the full set of financial and operational metrics the business measures, and keep them accurate and current.Deliver operational and business reporting used across the company, including sales and pipeline reporting.Essential Job Functions – Contracts and Legal Review:Review contracts, agreements, and other business/legal documents; identify risks and recommend language and revisions.Partner with leadership and outside counsel as needed to protect the company's interests in commercial terms.Essential Job Functions – Team and Administrative Leadership:Manage the administrative/accounting support role, who assists with accounting and provides support across the company.Oversee the administrative functions that accompany the company's ARR and billing operations.Own vendor relationships where appropriate.Build and mentor the finance function over time as the company scales.Step in and help out across the business as needed. This is a hands-on role at a growing company, and the right person rolls up their sleeves.Essential Job Functions - Systems:QuickBooks (system of record / general ledger)Salesforce reconciling ISV/partner payments and ARRRippling payroll and HR administrationStrong Microsoft Excel modeling skillsUses AI tools to build out and support reporting, analysis, and financial workflows efficiently and quickly Experience & Education: Bachelor's degree (minimum) in a finance-related field.CPA, CMA, or CFA (preferred).8+ years of high-level accounting/finance experience (Controller, CFO, VP of Finance, or comparable).Experience in a SaaS or software company, including recurring-revenue/ARR accounting.Demonstrated experience owning both hands-on accounting operations and strategic FP&A.Job Requirements:Must be authorized to work in the United StatesExcellent communication, both written and verbalDetail oriented with a strong commitment to accuracyHighly organized, process-driven, and able to meet recurring close and reporting deadlines.Comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-growing, remote environment.A roll-up-your-sleeves team player willing to step in and help wherever the business needs it.Working Conditions:This position is remote.If the employee is located in the Twin Cities Metro area of MN, office space can be provided in our WeWork office.There may be occasional in-person meetings.Travel is minimal.The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an Employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
