PURPOSE: Perform preventive, corrective maintenance and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic processes of both automation and manual equipment to support production needs with minimal supervision. Assist in training and development of facility Packaging Machine Operator and Automation Technician Level 1 personnel. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Perform electrical automation work in installing, maintaining, repairing automation equipment and infrastructure in emergent and non-emergent situations under minimal supervision. Perform automated equipment improvement on projects under minimal supervision to reduce downtime, improve quality and reduce overall costs for the operation of the equipment. Perform preventative maintenance on facility equipment by testing, adjusting, cleaning, and replacing worn parts. Utilize proficiently all tools required of an Automation technician Level I includes standard electrical and electronic testing equipment. The ability to Identify mechanical equipment on drawings. Responsible for troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic processes of both automation and manual equipment to support production needs. Inspects and maintains electronic, hydraulic, and motorized equipment and systems. Fabricate and install various parts and pieces of equipment. Monitor the performance of packaging lines and identify / diagnose potential problems by utilizing Redzone and/or on-site observations. Create work orders and record breakdown time in INFOR. Identify machine malfunctions and report findings to the shift supervisor/manager. Assist in the training and development of facility Packaging Machine Operator employees. Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment by complying to all established safety and plant policies and procedures. Demonstrate willingness to learn new skills and techniques. May be asked to rotate to a different area of the plant based on business need. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to remain in a stationary position throughout much of the working day at various heights. Ability to continuously work with product and equipment at ground level. Ability to inspect equipment and product. Ability to work on and build equipment. Ability to work outdoors. Ability to move in food processing facilities (sometimes through narrow passages, in wet areas, or on elevated platforms). Must be able to operate a motor vehicle. Ability to operate hand and power tools. Must be able to work in different temperatures (working temperatures as hot as 100° to 120° F and as cold as -20° F to 32° F). Must be able to work in a high noise area. Must be able to move items weighing up to 75 lbs to a height of 4.5 feet. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Must have 2 years of experience operating automated equipment or in Automation / Technical maintenance. Must demonstrate a working knowledge of all aspects of Automation Level 1. Must pass Level 2 skill evaluation. Knowledge of Root Cause Analysis a plus. Must have experience with pneumatic system. Must have electrical education or 2 years of experience in Industrial Automation. Must have great mechanical skills with the ability to rebuild mechanical system on automated equipment. Must have working knowledge of bearings, sprockets, motors, gearboxes, conveyors, belting, and rollers. Must be able to read and understand blueprints, wiring diagrams, technical equipment documentation or verbal instructions normal to the trade. Must be familiar with all aspects of safety as it pertains to the maintenance and repair of dangerous, and potentially dangerous machinery. Must be willing to train peers and new hires. Must pass all safety trainings and evaluations. Must understand and comply with safety and plant related policies and procedures. Must be able to read, write and understand written information in English. Must be able to work weekends Saturday and Sunday when required. Must pass pre-placement drug/alcohol screen, physical and functional capacity evaluation.
