Position SummaryAn exempt position with clinical duties. This person will function as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the department of surgery. This involves facilitating the care of surgical patients, responding to new consultations, and act as the liaison between surgeon, patient, and clinical team.Essential Functions And Responsibilities Includes The FollowingUnderstands and adheres to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and BehaviorsConducts physical exams, assesses health status, orders and interprets tests, prescribes medications, and treat illnesses. Consult with physicians as needed and refers to physicians for more complicated medical cases or cases that are not a routine part of a PA’s Scope of PracticeRound on surgical inpatients and facilitate the appropriate careAbility to assist in surgical procedures is preferredWrite notes and consultations on patients seenAttend Multi-disciplinary rounds and team discharge roundsConsult on surgical patients both on the floor and ER Consult appropriate specialties as seen fitMonitors therapies and provides continuity of careTriage patient calls and evaluates patient’s problems and concerns. Responds to emergencies including use of CPRCounsels patient/family on health care mattersDocuments patient information and care in the medical record, in a confidential manner, and may maintain departmental statistical database for research and quality purposesFamiliar with anatomy, pharmacology, pathophysiology, clinical medicine and physical diagnosisPerforms all other related duties as assigned Nurse PractitionerEducation & Experience RequirementsMaster’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited school (highly recommended)Current NYS license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse.Current NYS certification as a Nurse Practitioner (either Adult/Geriatric).Maintains a current collaborative practice agreement.Current National Certification Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) highly recommendedProficiency in all procedures, techniques and skills approved in the delineation of privilegesPhysician AssistantCurrent New York State Licensed Physician AssistantCurrent National Certification Current White Plains Hospital Physician Assistant DOPMaster’s degree from an accredited school (highly recommended)Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) highly recommendedProficiency in all procedures, techniques and skills approved in the delineation of privilegesCore CompetenciesAct in a professional capacity and serve as a professional role modelDemonstrate and encourage teamworkAdaptability and flexibilityExcellent written and verbal communication skills.
