Certified Crane Operator
Location Marion, NC (Primary Location)Occasional travel to Nashville, TN manufacturing facility requiredJob ScopeWe are seeking a Certified Crane Operator to support operations at Marion Machine. This role is responsible for safely operating cranes to move large components and materials within the shop and yard. When crane operation is not required, the employee will support operations through CDL driving, material handling, and general labor duties.This position may also be called upon to travel periodically to our Nashville, TN manufacturing facility to assist with similar operations as business needs require.Key CompetenciesStrong safety mindset and hazard recognitionClear communication skills (radio and hand signals)Attention to detailAbility to work independently and as part of a crewStrong mechanical aptitudeProblem-solving under pressureKey ResponsibilitiesCrane & Material Handling OperationsOperate overhead, mobile, or gantry cranes to safely lift, position, and move large, machined parts and materialsPerform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance needsFollow all OSHA and company safety standardsCommunicate effectively with machinists, supervisors, and rigging personnelEnsure proper rigging, load securement, and lift proceduresSecondary ResponsibilitiesOperate Class A commercial vehicles to transport materials, equipment, or finished componentsPerform pre-trip and post-trip inspections and maintain DOT-compliant recordsSafely load, unload, and secure cargoSupport occasional travel to the Nashville, TN facility as neededAssist with loading/unloading machines, staging materials, and shop organizationSupport manual machinists and shop operations as neededMaintain a clean and safe work environmentAssist with basic maintenance, yard work, and facility support tasksRequired QualificationsCurrent NCCCO Certification (National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators) for applicable crane type(s): Mobile CraneValid driver's license (CDL Class A or B preferred/required, if applicable)Minimum 5 years of experience operating [mobile and OHC]Ability to pass:Pre-employment drug screeningPhysical exam (DOT medical card if required)Experience working around large components, heavy materials, or industrial equipmentStrong safety awareness and attention to detailWillingness to travel occasionally to Nashville, TNWorking knowledge of:Load charts and capacity calculationsRigging practices and hand signalsOSHA crane and construction standards (29 CFR 1926 Subpart CC)Ability to inspect cranes daily and identify mechanical or safety issuesAbility to work at heights and in varying weather conditionsPreferred QualificationsSignalperson and Rigger certification (NCCCO or equivalent)Experience with:Heavy industrial equipmentSteel erectionAggregate or mining operationsConstruction site coordinationExperience with hydraulic, crawler, or rough-terrain cranes (as applicable)Familiarity with lift planning software or engineered lift plansExperience mentoring apprentices or junior operatorsPhysical RequirementsAbility to lift up to [insert weight, e.g., 50 lbs] with or without assistanceAbility to stand, walk, climb, and work around heavy equipment for extended periodsAbility to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions
