DescriptionDEPARTMENT: AdministrationDIVISION: AdministrationLOCATION: Owatonna, MN - City HallIMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Assistant City AdministratorDIRECTION OF OTHERS: NoneNATURE OF WORK:Provide support to the City of Owatonna's efforts to inform, engage, and connect with residents, businesses, and community stakeholders. This role provides hands-on experience in public sector communications, digital media, and community outreach while contributing to meaningful civic initiatives.Duties / ResponsibilitiesAssist in creating and publishing content for city communication channels, including social media, website updates, newsletters, and press releasesSupport public engagement efforts such as community events, surveys, and outreach campaignsHelp monitor, maintain and update the city communication channels to ensure accurate and timely information/responseDraft and edit written materials in alignment with the city's voice and brandingCollect and analyze engagement data (e.g., social media metrics, survey responses) to inform communication strategiesAssist in developing visual content using graphic design tools (flyers, infographics, etc.)Support internal communications initiatives for city staffPerform other related duties as assignedQualificationsMinimum Qualifications: Must have a valid driver's license. Successful candidates will have some post-secondary education from a program in public administration, communications, marketing, or a related field. Must be proficient in the use of computer equipment and software including word processing and web-based systems.Preferred Qualifications: Strong organizational, attention to detail, ability to manage multiple projects, creative thinking, problem-solving, and customer service skills.Hours of Work/Physical and Mental DemandsHours of Work:Position will work in the office and have flexibility in schedule within regular business hours of 8am - 4:30pm. Temporary position could work up to 40 hours per week.Physical and Mental Demands:Position requires reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
