Site Reliability Engineer - SRE
Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) – Engineering Focused
Dallas, TX (Hybrid/Onsite as required)
Contract‑to‑Hire
About the Role
We are building an engineering‑first Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team to support a large, enterprise application ecosystem. This is not a traditional production support role. The ideal candidate is a strong software engineer who is excited to apply engineering principles to reliability, automation, observability, and resiliency at scale.
You will work as part of a growing SRE organization that supports 45+ applications across multiple engineering teams. The goal of this team is to reduce incident resolution time, improve system resiliency, and build automation and observability as code.
What You’ll Be Doing
Act as an engineering‑focused SRE supporting a broad application portfolio
Participate in incident investigation and resolution by debugging code and systems directly
Build automation tools, scripts, and services to reduce manual effort and operational toil
Develop observability as code, monitoring patterns, and reusable SRE frameworks
Create and maintain runbooks, playbooks, and operational documentation
Analyze application behavior, reliability gaps, and resiliency patterns
Partner with application engineering teams to proactively improve reliability
Contribute to greenfield SRE initiatives (automation, tooling, and patterns built from scratch)
First 90 Days – What Success Looks Like
Actively involved in alerts and incident response
Ownership of select applications while remaining flexible during cross‑app incidents
Delivery of:
Initial automation scripts/services
Runbooks and playbooks
Process improvements and tooling enhancements
Demonstrated understanding of system behavior, failure modes, and remediation paths
Required Qualifications
Strong software engineering background (not support‑only SRE experience)
Enterprise engineering experience (strong candidates with ~3 years preferred)
Hands‑on experience writing, debugging, and maintaining production‑quality code
Proficiency in:
Java (Spring ecosystem)
Python
Experience building automation and backend services
Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure preferred, AWS/GCP acceptable)
Comfortable working across many applications and problem domains
Ability to ramp quickly with limited onboarding runway
Preferred / Nice‑to‑Have
Experience with:
Site Reliability Engineering or DevOps practices
Observability platforms and monitoring tools
Resiliency engineering concepts
Frontend familiarity (lightweight UI work; no specific framework required)
Exposure to AI tools or automation (not required)
SRE tooling and observability platforms can be trained. Strong engineering fundamentals are non‑negotiable.
