This role ensures the effective implementation of a comprehensive, equitable, and compliant system of supports, including Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Special Education, Early Learners, Multilingual Learners, and Advanced Learners.In addition to leading student services, the Assistant Superintendent plays a critical role in supporting and advancing districtwide systems, structures, and operational processes. Serving as the Superintendent's primary designee, this position functions as a key member of the executive leadership team and provides organizational leadership across departments to ensure coherence, alignment, and effective implementation of district priorities.As the Local Education Agency (LEA) representative, the Assistant Superintendent ensures compliance with all state and federal regulations, leads key partnerships, and collaborates with district and school leaders to promote student success aligned with the District's mission and values.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSExecutive Leadership + Districtwide Systems:Serve as the Superintendent's designee in their absence, as appropriateProvide leadership and oversight for districtwide systems, processes, and continuous improvementEnsure alignment of student services with broader district goals, initiatives, and strategic prioritiesCollaborate with cabinet-level leaders to support coherent implementation of district initiativesSupport organizational decision-making through cross-functional problem-solving and systems thinkingSystems Leadership + Program Oversight:Lead and oversee the implementation and continuous improvement of MTSS across academic, behavioral, and social-emotional domainsDirect all aspects of Special Education, ensuring compliance with IDEA and state regulationsOversee programming and services for Early Learners (Preschool), Multilingual Learners, and Advanced Learners, ensuring equitable access and growth opportunitiesMonitor student data and outcomes to inform program development and resource allocationCollaborate with principals to address complex student needs and ensure appropriate supports are in placeCompliance + LEA Responsibilities:Serve as the District's Local Education Agency (LEA) representative for all special education mattersEnsure compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, including IDEA, Section 504, and Title programsAct as the Title IX Coordinator and District's Complaint Manager, overseeing the investigation and resolution of formal complaintsMaintain accurate and timely reporting for all required state and federal submissionsLead and support district audits, program reviews, and compliance monitoringHuman Resources + Staff Development:Conduct and/or supervise staff and teacher evaluations in alignment with district practices and state requirementsLead hiring, onboarding, and retention of student services personnelCollaborate on the district's comprehensive professional development (PD) plan and calendar aligned to district prioritiesEnsure all staff complete mandated trainings and maintain compliance with required certifications and licensureGrant + Fiscal Oversight:Lead the identification, application, and management of state and federal grants, including entitlement and discretionary fundingEnsure proper allocation, monitoring, and reporting of grant funds in compliance with regulationsCollaborate with the business office to align grant expenditures with district priorities and long-term planningPartnerships + Representation:Represent the District in collaboration with the local special education cooperative and other regional partnersServe as a liaison with external agencies, service providers, and community organizationsSupport communication with families regarding student services, rights, and programmingCORE COMPETENCIESSystems thinking and strategic planningStrong interpersonal and communication skillsCommitment to equity and inclusive practicesAbility to navigate complex and sensitive situations with professionalism and discretionData-informed decision makingCollaborative leadership and team developmentWORKING CONDITIONSProlonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computerStanding, bending, walking, talking, and hearingSome lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 30 lbs.Attend after hour meetings or events as requiredRespond to emergencies that may occur 24/7Regularly working at assigned site(s)Frequent drivingEDUCATION + EXPERIENCEValid ISBE Professional Educator License (PEL) with General Administrative Endorsement (Required)Director of Special Education Endorsement (Required)Teacher Evaluator Designation (Required)Master's degree in Education, or a related field (Required)Extensive experience as a teacher or certified employee in an educational setting (Required)COMPENSATION + BENEFITSCompetitive salary commensurate with degree and experience.
