Assistant Director - TransportationJob Status: UNTIL FILLED Posting Date: 02/10/2026 Posting Number: 013353 Location: Transportation Position Title: Assistant Director - Transportation Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Reports To: Director of TransportationPrimary Purpose:Assist the Director in administering and directing the operations and activities of the transportation department. Responsibilities include assisting in planning and directing transportation of regular and special education students safely to and from school. The work includes the daily operation of school buses and pupil transportation services.Qualifications: Education/Certification:High School Diploma or GED.Associate or bachelor's degree preferred.TAPT / NAPT Certification preferred.Texas CDL (Class B) with passenger and school bus endorsements.Special Knowledge/Skills:* Ability to pass DOT Physical and Employee Physical Performance Test* Knowledge of all State and federal laws and GuidelinesExperience:* 3 years upper-level management preferred* Student transportation experience preferredMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Oversee the preparation and updating of bus routes and schedules for all schools in the district; develop plans to meet future transportation needs; research, establish, and monitor bus routes, number of stops, load counts as necessary; communicate changes in routes and scheduling to drivers, campuses, and the public when warranted; ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards of safety.Oversee the assignment of bus drivers, monitors, and the substitutes to routes and extracurricular trips.Directly supervise the transportation personnel including but not limited to drivers, monitors, shop staff and office staff.Assists in the approving of all bus routes and trips for student transportation.Assists in preparing and administering the budget for student transportation.Assists in maintaining account of student transportation costs.Assists in preparing and expediting legislative measures for the improvement of student transportation.Assists in determining student eligibility for bus service for each school.Assists in investigating school bus accidents.Assists in responding to inquiries and complaints and other communications related to student transportation.Assists in preparing for the annual reporting of all pupil transportation services.Assist with interviewing and recommended selection of job applicants.Ability to organize, coordinate and supervise subordinates.Assist in establishing staffing standards, organizing, training, and evaluating work.Assist in preparing annual employee evaluations.Assist in organizing staff development and team building activities.Assist in reviewing and approving payroll.Assist with identifying areas that qualify for bus service within the two-mile radius and establish route exceptions.Supervisory Responsibilities:Supervision of transportation department personnelCustomer Care Skills:None.Mental Demands/Physical Demands:Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; district vehicle; school busPosture: Prolonged sitting; frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twistingMotion: Frequent walking; regular grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and reaching; regular drivingLifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds)Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration; exposure to chemical hazards; work around vehicles and machinery with moving parts; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel; occasional statewide travelMental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stressSalary: Pay Grade PG03, $374.66 - $442.36 daily rate, commensurate with experience according to District salary schedule.Days: 226 Start Date: 2026-02-25 00:00:00.000
