LICENSED VOCATIONAL NURSEClassificationHourly Non-ExemptReports toDirector of Nursing ServicesSummary/ObjectiveIn keeping with our organization's goals, the primary purpose of the Licensed Vocational Nurse is to deliver quality nursing care to resident's requiring short-term, skilled, and long-term nursing care.Job DutiesProvide direct nursing care, under direct supervision of a registered nurse or physician, in accordance with the nurse practice act, federal and state regulations, facility policies and procedures, and prudent nursing judgmentDeliver care to residents following their plan of care in accordance with current physician's orders, rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the nursing care facilitiesHave knowledge of and utilize of the facility's written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing service departmentUtilize established methods for coordination and communication of nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents' total regimen of careParticipate in facility surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies as necessary or as may be directedConduct themselves in a professional manner in compliance with facility policiesAgree not to disclose assigned user ID code and password for accessing resident/facility information and promptly report suspected or known violations of such disclosure to the AdministratorAgree not to disclose resident's protected health information and promptly report suspected or known violations of such disclosure to the Administrator.Report any known or suspected unauthorized attempt to access facility's information systemProvide education to residents/families/caregivers when the need arises, or as directed by Administration and/or physician.Provides prompt emergency support measures, including CPR, in accordance with physician orders, resident/family wishes, advance directives, and facility policies and procedures.Provide care in a manner that respect for the resident's dignity and privacy is consistently upheldEnsure that nursing interventions are performed in a timely manner: if there must be a delay, explanations for delays in answers/responses are providedMake frequent rounds of the assigned unit to ensure that all nursing service personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standardsProvide care in a manner that is courteous and respects the residents' dignity and privacyProvide complaint/grievance reports to the Administrator as required or as may be necessaryReport occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the facility's policies and procedures governing accidents and incidentsReport known or suspected incidents of fraud, abuse, neglect, and/or misappropriation to the AdministratorEnsure that departmental computer workstations left unattended are properly logged off or the password protected automatic screensaver activates within established facility policy guidelinesRefrain from disclosing assigned user ID code and password for accessing resident/facility information and promptly report suspected or known violations of such disclosure to the AdministratorRefrain from disclosing resident protected health information and promptly report suspected or known violations of such disclosure to the AdministratorReport any known or suspected unauthorized attempt to access facility's information systemSupervisory ResponsibilityThe position requires oversight of nurse aides and communication with and oversight of nursing home staff to ensure that specific policies, procedures, and systems are maintained correctly as it relates to the department.Required Education and ExperienceMust possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in the StateA Certificate in Vocational Nursing2 years' experience in Long-Term Care experience preferred.Six (6) months experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices preferredMust be able to demonstrate leadership, organizational skills, and maintain a positive and professional attitudeStrong utilization knowledge of Point Click Care preferredComputer literacy skills (Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office, Internet)Required SkillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsDemonstrate leadership, organizational skills, and ability to maintain a positive and professional attitudeAbility to work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and handle multiple tasks simultaneouslyDisplay attention to detailInteract with residents, families, and the community in a professional mannerAbility to engage in active listening new information during problem-solving situations)Exceptional judgment and active foresightSelf-motivated and self-directedPosition Type and Expected Hours of WorkThis position is within a healthcare facility that operates every day. There will be scheduled times of work on the weekends and holidays. Significant events can occur at any given time that require working. Ongoing direction and support may be necessary if systems are not properly implemented, continuously improved, and monitored.Work Environment and Physical DemandsThis position generally will require physical activity. It may at times require walking to various locations within a facility. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and may require some use of machinery consistent with the job duties.While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
