Senior Infrastructure Architect / DevOps Engineer

About SubcontractorHubSubcontractorHub is a fast-growing SaaS platform serving the solar energy industry. We powerthe full project lifecycle — from sales proposals and financing to design, permitting, projectmanagement, and post-installation monitoring — for 500+ contractor organizations across theUnited States.Having established itself as the technology leader in its industry, SubcontractorHub is nowpreparing its systems for aggressive scale. We need someone who can lead the evolution frommanually provisioned cloud resources to a fully codified, scalable, secure, and cost-efficientinfrastructure — while keeping the platform running without disruption for every one of ourtenants. The RoleYou will be the first dedicated infrastructure hire and the primary owner of SubcontractorHub'scloud infrastructure, platform reliability, and operational efficiency. You will architect, build, andoperate the infrastructure that the platform runs on, and you will guide the backend engineeringteam through the changes needed to support a modern infrastructure posture.Your work spans three domains — and you own the change end-to-end, from architecturedecision through implementation to production validation:1. Infrastructure Architecture (primary) Define and implement the target-state cloudarchitecture. Translate the current manually provisioned AWS environment into Infrastructure asCode. Design for multi-tenant isolation, horizontal scalability, disaster recovery, and costefficiency. Own the infrastructure roadmap.2. DevOps & Platform Engineering Build and improve the CI/CD pipelines, deploymentstrategies, and developer tooling that allow a 50+ person engineering team to ship safely andfrequently. Introduce environment promotion, automated rollback, and deployment observability.3. Backend Systems Guidance When infrastructure changes require application-leveladaptation, you either implement the changes directly, implement a working example thatproves the pattern and guide the backend team through the full implementation, or provideprecise technical guidance to backend engineers — so the platform continues to operatewithout disruption.Tech Stack● Cloud: AWS (ECS Fargate, RDS MariaDB, S3, ElastiCache Redis, ALB, Route 53,CloudFront, IAM, VPC, SQS), GuardDuty, WAF● IaC: Terraform● CI/CD: GitHub Actions → Docker → ECR → ECS● Monitoring: Datadog (APM, infrastructure, logs, database monitoring), AWSCloudWatch● Backend: PHP / Laravel, MariaDB, Redis● Frontend: AngularWhat We're Looking For● 5+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, DevOps, or platform engineeringroles, with at least 3 years in a senior or architect capacity.● Deep hands-on AWS experience: ECS/Fargate, RDS, S3, VPC, IAM, ALB, CloudFront,Secrets Manager, SQS, Route 53.● Experience with containerized deployments (Docker, ECS or EKS) and CI/CD pipelinedesign including environment promotion and deployment safety.● Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform preferred, or equivalent): modules, remotestate, workspaces, CI/CD integration, and migrating manually provisioned environmentsto IaC.● Backend development experience — understanding of application architecture, connection management, caching integration, queue patterns, environment configurationin containerized deployments, and health check implementation. PHP/Laravelexperience is a strong plus.● Experience operating and optimizing relational databases at scale. You understandreplication topologies, connection pooling, parameter tuning, backup/recovery, andpartitioning strategies.● Security-first mindset: IAM least-privilege, network segmentation, secrets management, encryption, WAF, and identity management.● Experience with monitoring and observability platforms — Datadog preferred.● Clear, precise written communication.
