SummaryThis position provides supervision of professional safety staff by advising and prioritizing projects, ensuring accountability of project completion, ensuring that professional personnel have the appropriate resources needed, encouraging a positive attitude and environment and ensuring a solution-based approach. This position provides a professional contact for Plant personnel to utilize in the decision-making process during planning of projects, work tasks or other operations where hazard/risk analysis is necessary. The position is responsible for ensuring programs and procedures are in place to help guide and direct plant personnel when consultation is not practical.This position provides a liaison to our contractors for direction, interpretation and enforcement of the Westlake safety and health rules and regulations. The position adds value indirectly by increasing worker morale by helping provide a cleaner, healthier work environment, and directly by reducing personnel injuries and property damage.Duties And ResponsibilitiesMay include, but are not limited to, the following:Demonstrates strong safety culture through personal behavior and commitment to environmental, health & safety.Participates in the PACE culture of safety.Develop, coordinate and conduct Safety and Health TrainingDevelop and implement health and safety processesReview and Revise Health and Safety ProceduresRoutinely observe tasks and work in the fieldConduct assessment of jobs and the compliance with Life Critical ProceduresConduct and participate in incident investigationsParticipate in Emergency ResponseSupport Operating Units in Health and Safety mattersProvide subject matter expertise for OSHA and other related regulationsProviding Health and Safety support for TurnaroundsParticipate on Safety CommitteesSupport Contractor Safety ManagementSupport implementation of VPP at the site.Conduct performance reviews and provide constructive feedback for Safety StaffEducation, Experience And QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety & Health or related field requiredMinimum of 5 years industrial safety experience in petrochemicals or chemicals manufacturingCertified Safety Professional (CSP) is preferredExpert Knowledge Level of regulatory compliance laws (OSHA 1910 – General Industry)Knowledge Level of Industrial HygieneStrong computer skills, with a good working knowledge of related databases and applicationsStrong facilitation skillsStrong interpersonal skillsCapable of managing multiple projectsStrong verbal and written communication abilitiesExhibits positivity, passion, integrity and accountability Able to work in a team-oriented environmentPHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and infrequently lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must frequently make minor decisions requiring limited judgement, general decisions in the absence of specific directions, and perform activities requiring sustained concentration.WORK ENVIRONMENTThe noise level in the work environment is sometimes moderate when working in an office, however, some of the work may be required in the operating units which mandates usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs.
