Senior Systems Engineer

POSITION DESCRIPTION DUTIES Scope technical tasks and develop creative solutions to assigned problems. Begin using systems and meeting requirements with minimal supervisory guidance. Accepts complex tasks and receives minimal guidance from senior professionals. Incorporate conventional engineering or scientific practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning. Provide limited guidance and direction to less senior engineering professionals. Carry out development and qualification programs on tasks concurrent with other phases such as design and fabrication to better evaluate and minimize future problems. Develop alternate solutions to existing problems. Perform all detail work necessary to determine best solutions. Evaluate proposals and make recommendations based on proposed projects/tasks in area of assignment. May delegate portions of the detail work to less senior personnel. Prepare costs and schedule estimates on proposed projects/tasks in assigned area. Demonstrate cost and schedule consciousness through timely completion of assigned tasks and projects. Prepare manuals and other documents supporting or publicizing the technical effort. Demonstrate creative ability through medium of patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers and articles. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS In applicable science or engineering discipline entry level PhD degree, MS degree with 2-4 years’ experience; or BS and 5-10 years’ experience. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Ability to work in a diverse work environment, Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a background check and drug screening. Ability to fulfill and promote L&A core values. Understands and applies advanced knowledge of discipline's standard theories, concepts, principles and techniques; has working knowledge of standard engineering/scientific practices andapplications. Candidate must demonstrate 15 or more years’ experience in engineering related positions, including a minimum of 10 years’ experience on DOE projects. Candidate must demonstrate experience participating in systems engineering teams, with responsibilities including engineering program, plan, and procedure development, value engineering studies, and requirements & assumptions tracking. Occasional travel is required Desired Qualifications Possession of an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years is preferred. Prior SRS Design Engineering experience and working knowledge of SRNS design processes. Prior Design Authority Engineering Manager experience is preferred. Prior Project Engineering experience is preferred. LOCATION Position will be on-site in Aiken, SC. Duration of the Contract: One (1) year with the option to extend for two (2) additional one (1) year options Estimates Hours Per Year: 2,000ST / 200OT Anticipated Work Schedule: 6:00am - 4:30pm. 4/10s Onsite or Remote?
