If you are seeking an organization where you can develop clinical expertise, explore diverse career opportunities, embrace learning, cultivate new relationships, and fuel your spirit of inquiry, apply today.Nursing skills gained:Labor & Delivery Skills:Low‐risk labor assessment and managementFetal monitoring (intermittent auscultation and basic EFM interpretation)Sterile vaginal examsLabor support techniques (positioning, coping, hydrotherapy, etc.)Identifying early signs of labor complications and initiating provider notificationAssisting with inductions and augmentations (e.g., Foley balloon, Cytotec, low-dose Pitocin protocols)Assisting with spontaneous vaginal deliveriesImmediate postpartum recovery for birthing parentsGrief support and bereavement care when needed.Postpartum:Focused postpartum assessments: fundus, lochia, pain, perineum, bladder, vitalsPostpartum hemorrhage recognition and first-line interventionsBreastfeeding support and safe formula feeding educationManagement of common postpartum needs (pain control, mobility, peri-care)Post-operative cesarean section care.Maternal mental health screening (e.g., EPDS)Newborn Nursery:Comprehensive newborn assessmentsRoutine newborn care: meds (Vitamin K, Hep B, erythromycin), baths, weightsThermoregulation and blood sugar monitoringFeeding support for breastfeeding and formula-fed infantsJaundice screeningNewborn screening coordination (CCHD, hearing, heelstick)Safe sleep education for familiesStabilization of late preterm or borderline infants before transfer if neededEmergency Management SkillsNeonatal stabilization prior to transport (NRP-level skills)Maternal emergency stabilization (PE, eclampsia, hemorrhage, sepsis)Shoulder dystocia support and documentationInitial response to OB traumas before transferParticipation in mock codes and drills (PPH, neonatal resuscitation, maternal code)Cross Training & GeneralCaring for antepartum patients for short-term observation.Managing a mix of labor, postpartum, and newborn patients following AWHONN Safe Staffing Guidelines.Crosstrain to Medical Surgical UnitUnit Successes/Designations/National recognition:* IU Health Paoli has been recognized by ANCC as a Pathway to Excellence Hospital through 2029.
