Culinary Instructor/Kitchen Cook
Job Summary:
The Culinary Instructor is responsible for teaching clients and students techniques required to work in the culinary industry. Job responsibilities include but are not limited to developing lesson plans, demonstrating cooking techniques, and providing hands-on instruction to students. The Culinary Instructor may teach a variety of cooking styles and cuisines, covering topics such as knife, skills, food safety and sanitation, menu planning, and recipe development. The Culinary Instructor will also assess and track clients, and students’ progress, provide feedback and guidance, and help them develop their culinary abilities. Additionally, they may be involved in curriculum development, organizing culinary events or competitions, and staying updated with industry trends and advancements.
Essential Functions:
Develop and deliver culinary training programs and courses.
Provide hands-on instruction and supervise practical exercises.
Assist in the development of new recipes menu items, or special dishes.
Teach and demonstrate to clients and students how to follow proper cooking techniques and safety procedures.
Create lesson plans, course materials, and assessments.
Evaluate students’, and client’s progress and provide constructive feedback.
Mentor and guide students and clients in their culinary career development.
Stay updated with industry trends, new cooking techniques, and ingredients.
Prepare and cook food items according to recipes, menus, or customer orders.
Ensure that food is cooked and presented in a visually appealing and appetizing manner.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including equipment and utensils.
Monitor and manage inventory of food supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels.
Adhere to proper cooking techniques and food safety standards to maintain hygiene and prevent food-borne illnesses.

Qualifications:
ServSafe Certification.
Proven experience working in a culinary role, preferably in a professional kitchen environment.
In-depth knowledge of various cooking techniques, food preparation methods, and culinary terminology.
Knowledge of culinary trends, international cuisines, and modern cooking techniques.
Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to develop recipes or modify existing ones.
Ability to work well in a team and collaborate with colleagues.
Familiarity with kitchen equipment, tools, and ingredients.
Ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy objects, and work in a hot kitchen environment.
Relevant certifications or additional training in specialized areas of culinary expertise is a plus.

Reliable transportation to visit job sites and vendors.
Current CA Driver’s License
Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent, Culinary arts degree or equivalent certification is preferred.
Previous experience as a culinary instructor or teacher is a plus.
Experience in a professional kitchen or culinary establishment.
Continuous professional development in culinary arts and teaching methodologies.
Skills:

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
