For more information, visit corporate.carrier.com or follow on Carrier social media at @Carrier.About The PositionThe Refrigerant Group in Carrier’s Mechanical Center of Excellence is seeking a motivated, results-oriented and experienced engineer to join our team based in East Syracuse, NY.As a Principal Engineer in the Refrigerant Group, you will be a key member of the team providing advanced refrigerant evaluation and development to Carrier’s global HVAC&R portfolio. Your primary responsibility will be to lead modeling-centered system technology evaluation and strategy development. In addition, you will participate in industry research and standards development for future refrigerants and products. You will collaborate with other technology experts, modeling and simulation experts, product design groups, supply chain partners, and others to develop new refrigerants and system technologies to improve the performance, cost, reliability, and sustainability of Carrier products.Role ResponsibilitiesEvaluate and develop future refrigerants, including Natural and ultra- Low GWP synthetic refrigerants, system performance enhancements, and flammability mitigation strategies to develop Carrier refrigerant and technology strategy to ensure regulatory compliance. Key tasks include:System modeling and optimizationTechnology and refrigerant evaluationSystem performance verification testingManagement of refrigerant properties data base and REFPROP support dataRecommendation of technology strategies to support product strategiesInteract and share learnings with engineering counterpoints for other products, and with product development engineers.Develop and execution of project plans.Basic QualificationsBachelors Engineering Degree in with 10+ year experience in engineering, or Master’s Engineering Degree with 7+ years experience in engineering, or PhD Engineering Degree with 4+ years experience in engineering.Preferred Qualifications (nice To Have)Knowledgeable in Thermodynamics with specific focus on vapor compression cycles for air conditioning and refrigerationAir conditioning system simulation capabilitiesKnowledgeable in refrigerant properties, both thermodynamic properties and flammability characteristicsSoftware: IPM, EES, Refprop, Microsoft OfficeKnowledge of Refrigerant standards, system standards, and building codes, especially related to flammable refrigerants.Project planning and management experience.Additional InformationCandidates must be authorized to work in the United States without restriction; visa sponsorship is not available.Pay RangeThe annual salary for this position is between $117,500.00 - $234,500.00 annually.
