Electrical Systems Engineer
Overview
In this role, you design and analyze power systems for diverse clients, contributing to reliable, safe electrical solutions across lifecycle stages. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated protection and control systems and to mentor junior engineers. The work spans utility, commercial, and federal sectors, including grid modernization and renewable energy projects. You will impact project outcomes through precise design, testing, and problem solving.
ResponsibilitiesDevelop electrical designs for power systems, including technology selection for inverter-based resources and equipment specificationCreate single line diagrams, interconnection diagrams, detailed drawings, specifications, and equipment layoutsValidate designs against NFPA 70, IEEE, NERC, ISO, and local utility standardsPerform power system analysis (load flow, short circuit, coordination, transient stability)Investigate electrical system problems, analyze failures, and evaluate improvementsDevelop equipment procurement specifications for major capital equipmentSupervise design verification testing, installation, and commissioningPrepare technical documents (design reports, manuals, submittals)Collaborate with instrumentation and controls teams for integrated protection systemsMentor junior engineers and communicate with clients to define requirements and provide recommendations
Key requirementsBSEE from an ABET-accredited universityAt least 3 years of electrical power systems experienceStrong analytical fundamentals; familiarity with industry standards and regulations (IEEE, NERC)Experience with electrical analysis tools (MATLAB, ETAP, EMTP-RV, PSCAD, ANSYS)CAD tools experience a plusExperience with design verification tests and commissioningAbility to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environmentExperience across full electrical project lifecycle is a plusExcellent verbal and written communication skillsTravel up to 10–20%Excellent verbal communicationExcellent written communicationLeadership and team motivationElectrical design of power systemsProtection and control systemsInverter-based resources interconnection (PCC/POI)
