Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

We ensure our engagements not only generate strong financial results but also develop essential digital infrastructure to meet growing demands.Position OverviewThe Senior Mechanical Design Engineer operates in a global engineering environment supporting the design and productization of mechanical, electrical, and structural data center infrastructure. This role leads mechanical design across new product development, continuous improvement, and existing product lines, with a strong focus on 3D CAD modeling, assemblies, manufacturing documentation, and BOM structures. You will work independently with minimal oversight while partnering with Principal Engineers and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, manufacturable designs aligned with performance, safety, cost, and schedule objectives.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop 3D CAD models, detailed parts, and complex assemblies for data center infrastructure productsCreate complete 2D drawings including dimensions, GD&T, tolerances, and specificationsDesign new components and improve existing designs with focus on reliability, safety, manufacturability, and costBuild and maintain accurate BOM structures for mechanical and electrical assembliesApply DFM/DFA principles and consider fabrication methods such as sheet metal, machining, weldments, and bus barsProject Execution & DocumentationGenerate manufacturing and fabrication drawing packages aligned with specifications and standardsSupport engineering system setup including CAD structure, part numbering, and configurationsLoad BOM and material data into ERP/MRP systemsCompile technical submittals for internal review and customer releaseManage document control, revisions, and engineering change processesCoordinate deliverables to support project schedules, manufacturing timelines, and on-time deliveryTrack progress and organize all engineering documentationCross-Functional CollaborationSupport Principal Engineers and Product Leads on project-specific configurationsPartner with manufacturing, supply chain, and quality teams to resolve design challengesWork with vendors and fabrication partners to refine designs and specificationsProvide technical input to project managers on scope, schedule, and riskTesting, Validation & Continuous ImprovementParticipate in testing and validation of assemblies and components across fit, form, function, thermal, structural, and safety requirementsSupport root cause analysis and corrective actions for design-related issuesContribute to CAD standards, templates, libraries, and design review improvementsHelp refine engineering processes, guidelines, and best practicesSenior-Level ContributionsManage multiple projects independently with minimal oversightProvide guidance and mentorship to junior designers and draftersSupport value engineering, cost reduction, and product standardization initiativesKey CompetenciesAdvanced 3D CAD expertise including Creo, AutoCAD, Fusion, Inventor, and SOLIDWORKS with complex assemblies and configurationsStrong mechanical design fundamentals, GD&T, and manufacturing documentationKnowledge of data center infrastructure including HVAC systems, switchgear, low voltage assemblies, enclosures, bus systems, and cable routingExperience with BOM management, change control, and document systemsStrong problem solving, analytical thinking, and structured design approachEffective communication and collaboration across engineering and operations teamsHigh ownership, attention to detail, and process disciplineRequired QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, Associate degree with strong experience considered5+ years of mechanical design or product engineering experience in industrial, mechanical, or electrical equipmentProficiency with 3D CAD tools including Creo, AutoCAD, Fusion, Inventor, or SOLIDWORKSStrong experience with mechanical drawings, tolerancing, and manufacturing documentationExperience managing BOMs, ERP/MRP systems, and document control environmentsAbility to work independently while meeting quality, schedule, and documentation expectationsStrong written and verbal communication skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience with data center infrastructure, switchgear, and enclosure designBackground in large and complex CAD assemblies and design modificationsFamiliarity with UL/IEC standardsExperience with sheet metal, weldments, and fabrication processesKnowledge of ECO/ECN workflows and formal change management systemsExperience in global engineering or multi-site manufacturing environmentsTeam-oriented and adaptable to evolving project needsAdditional InformationPrimarily office-based with exposure to lab, manufacturing, and supplier environmentsOccasional travel to manufacturing partners, test labs, or project sitesCompetitive compensation and full benefits packageTract Capital EmploymentTract Capital employees enjoy competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits, including 100% employer-covered medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401K program, standard paid holidays, and unlimited PTO.NOTE: This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.
