UCT is seeking a highly skilled Welding Lead to join our team in Chandler, AZ. The Welding Lead provides technical expertise, daily work direction, and mentorship to Welding Technicians (Welder I-IV) while performing advanced MIG and TIG welding on complex, close-tolerance weldments in accordance with AWS standards. This position owns floor execution of welding operations, ensuring production efficiency, quality compliance, and workforce effectiveness while driving continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team OversightLead, coach, and mentor Welders (Level I-IV), providing real-time technical guidance and developmentAssign and coordinate daily work based on production priorities, technician skill level, and weld schedulesServe as the primary escalation point for technical and production issuesSupport onboarding, training, and skill progression, including weld qualification readinessReinforce accountability for safety, quality, and accurate production execution Production & Technical ExecutionPerform advanced MIG (GMAW) and TIG (GTAW) welding on complex weldments across steel, stainless steel, and aluminumInterpret complex blueprints, AWS welding symbols, and GD&T to ensure precise fabricationLead layout, fit-up, and fabrication of multi-component weldments with tight tolerancesEnsure weldments meet AWS codes, blueprint requirements, and internal quality standardsVerify proper setup and use of welding equipment in accordance with WPS Operations, Systems & Continuous ImprovementExecute and support weld schedules in partnership with supervision to meet production targetsUtilize the labor tracking system to accurately capture job progress, time, and production activityTrain and enforce consistent use of labor tracking tools to ensure data accuracy and accountabilityMonitor workflow and labor utilization to identify bottlenecks, improve efficiency, and support reportingDrive first-pass yield and reduce rework through proactive quality oversightTroubleshoot process, equipment, and build issues; implement corrective actionsGenerate, track, and close production action items Quality & SafetyEnsure compliance with AWS standards, internal quality requirements, and safety proceduresIdentify defects, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actionsMaintain a clean, organized, and safe work environmentFollow all safety rules and procedures; reinforce team adherence Basic QualificationsAssociate's degree (technical discipline) or equivalent experience4-6+ years of MIG/TIG welding experience in a manufacturing environment (close-tolerance weldments)1-2+ years of leadership experience (lead, trainer, or senior-level welder) Preferred QualificationsExperience supporting or leading Welders across multiple levels (I-III/IV scope)Strong knowledge of AWS codes, weld symbols, and GD&TExperience with complex frame weldments and multi-material fabrication (steel, stainless, aluminum)Familiarity with labor tracking, MES, or ERP systems in a manufacturing environment Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesAdvanced troubleshooting and problem-solving in welding and fabricationStrong ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and work instructionsEffective communication and leadership skills across all levels of the organizationHigh attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanshipAbility to train others on processes, tools, and systemsProficiency with welding equipment, hand tools, and grindersIntermediate computer skills Work Environment & Physical RequirementsWork performed in a manufacturing and/or cleanroom environmentAbility to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks including bending, lifting, pushing, and pullingAbility to lift up to 25 lbs (more with assistance)Required to wear appropriate PPEExposure to mechanical equipment, noise, and temperature variations Additional InformationAttendance is an essential job functionThis position is designated as Safety Sensitive (Arizona)Duties and responsibilities may change based on business needs Ultra Clean Technology is proud to be an equal-opportunity employer.
