Preschool Head Camp Counselor (Seasonal Part-Time)

Job Summary: The Preschool Camp Head Counselor will work an assigned summer day camp for children ages 3 through 5 years old. The focus of the Preschool Camp Head Counselor is to assist the Camp Coordinator in overseeing daily camp operations by acting as a mentor and leader of camp counselors, coordinating camp logistics, and having productive and professional interactions and communication with campers and parents/guardians. Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years old or older. Previous experience in camp or recreational instruction is required. Strong leadership skills, enthusiasm, and ability to work cooperatively with others. A valid Illinois Driver's License is required. Must possess CPR/AED/First Aid Certification or willing to obtain within one month of hire. All employees must pass a criminal background check, which the Glencoe Park District will cover. Required Knowledge: Philosophy of public recreation and early childhood education, with the ability to communicate this to others. Proven technical knowledge relevant to the position. Ability to plan and implement age-appropriate activities for campers. Required Skills: Dependable and flexible, with strong safety awareness and sound judgment. Ability to understand and follow rules and instructions. Strong reading, writing, and organizational skills. Excellent communication skills to lead and direct camp counselors and maintain professional interactions with parents and campers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Assist the camp coordinator in overseeing the daily camp operations. Plan, organize, lead, and supervise group activities. Act as a mentor and coach to the day-to-day activities of a camp counselor. Develop age-appropriate and play-based summer lesson plans. Foster and maintain good relations and strong communication with parents/guardians and campers. Understand, accept, and follow the philosophy, operational goals, and objectives of the camp and the Glencoe Park District. Communicate with your supervisors concerning problems, questions, or suggestions. Report to work promptly at the time assigned. Attend all camp trainings, field trips, special events and the 4th of July family event. Immediately report all accidents and unsafe conditions to the Camp Coordinator or Early Childhood Program & Admin Specialist, and complete and submit accident forms immediately. Attend all required safety programs and in-service education meetings. Pay strict attention to the neatness of camp area(s) and general facility. Dress appropriately for the position: gym shoes, camp shirt, appropriate length shorts or pants, no sandals or flip-flops. Keep camp room, supplies, and equipment neat and in good condition. Clean work area and camp room before leaving each day. Other duties as assigned by the Camp Coordinator, Early Childhood Program & Admin Specialist, Early Childhood Director and Deputy Executive Director/Director of Recreation and Facilities. Hours: Due to the nature of Park District programming, evening, weekend, and some holiday hours are to be expected Pay Scale: This is a seasonal part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. The intended starting pay for this position is $19.00 per hour, with a full pay scale ranging from $19.00 per hour to $21.00 per hour. Final compensation will be determined in good faith based on an evaluation of the candidate's qualifications, experience, and the recommendation of the (Hiring Manager), or the Early Childhood Director.
