Risk Manager, Insurance & Contract ComplianceLocation: Montgomery, ILWorking arrangement: Full-time, onsiteOur client is one of North America’s largest family-owned infrastructure contractors, delivering complex construction projects across the US and internationally.They are creating a new Risk Manager position to strengthen how contractual risk, insurance requirements and surety obligations are managed across the business. This is a highly visible, hands-on role for someone who understands the realities of construction and can confidently assess the risks behind major contracts and projects.You will work closely with Legal, Operational Leadership and senior Project Management teams, providing practical guidance before contracts are signed and throughout the full project lifecycle. You will also manage an International Risk Specialist and help develop more structured processes across the function.What you’ll be responsible forReview and evaluate domestic and international construction contracts, joint venture agreements and customer termsIdentify contractual risk exposures, insurance requirements, obligations and opportunities to transfer risk appropriatelyLead the insurance and risk aspects of complex contract reviews, highlighting potential advantages, disadvantages and areas requiring further negotiationWork with Corporate Legal, Operational Leadership and Project Management to resolve contractual and insurance-related concernsCoordinate project-specific insurance, including builders risk coverage, joint venture programs and certificates of insuranceReview owner-controlled insurance programs, including OCIPs, and identify potential gaps or limitations in coverageEvaluate insurance provided by subcontractors and consultants to ensure contractual requirements are metReview, negotiate and approve project-specific insurance policy wordingSupport the corporate surety program and coordinate project bond requirementsEnsure insurance policies and bonds are tracked throughout construction, any extended reporting period and the applicable completed-operations periodSupport major projects from bid and contract review through delivery and final closeoutProvide guidance and training to operational teams on contractual risk, insurance requirements and complianceImprove the systems and processes used to track contracts, insurance, bonds and project closeoutManage, support and develop an International Risk Specialist, with the potential to help grow the function over timeWhat we’re looking forSignificant risk and insurance experience within the construction industryStrong knowledge of construction contracts, insurance requirements and contractual risk transferExperience personally reviewing and evaluating complex construction contractsApproximately 10 or more years of relevant experience preferredExperience supporting a large contractor, complex construction business or major project portfolioThe ability to communicate complex risk and insurance matters clearly to Legal, Operations and Project Management teamsStrong judgement, attention to detail and the confidence to challenge contractual terms where necessaryLeadership experience or the ability to step successfully into a first formal management positionA bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experienceProficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly ExcelA valid driver’s licence and acceptable driving recordAdditional experience that would be valuableConstruction surety and project bondsBuilders risk and owner-controlled insurance programsJoint venture agreementsInternational construction projects or multinational insurance programsReviewing or negotiating insurance policy wordingDeveloping or improving risk and insurance tracking processesExperience with Origami, SharePoint or similar risk-management systemsCPCU, ARM, CRIS or a comparable professional designationSurety experience is highly valuable but is not essential.
