SIMON | Field and Shop Mechanic
Job SummaryResponsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining company electric, diesel, and gasoline vehicles and equipment, primarily at job sites from a field service truck. Ensures all work meets manufacturer specifications, DOT requirements, and Company safety standards while maintaining accurate service records. This role can be assigned to either the Gillette, WY or Sheridan, WY Simon shop, depending on where the employee resides.Main ResponsibilitiesEmbrace the Company's safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Simon Steering and Continuous Improvement teamsSupport, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policiesDiagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues using diagnostic equipment, visual inspections, and technical troubleshooting methodsRepair, replace, and adjust damaged or worn components to restore equipment to proper working conditionDismantle and reassemble vehicles and heavy equipment using hand tools, power tools, and hoisting equipmentOperate, inspect, and test vehicles and equipment to identify defects and verify repairsPerform post-repair testing to ensure functionality, reliability, and compliance with manufacturer and regulatory specificationsRead, interpret, and follow OEM manuals, service bulletins, blueprints, and technical drawingsConduct DOT vehicle and brake inspections, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulationsInspect safety devices, guards, fasteners, and controls, making necessary adjustments to ensure safe operationPerform scheduled preventive maintenance, including cleaning, lubricating, and servicing equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelinesMaintain accurate maintenance records and service documentationKeep tools, vehicles, and work areas clean, organized, and in safe working conditionPerform routine support tasks such as basic facility maintenance, equipment hauling, and equipment operation as neededTroubleshoot and repair high- and low-voltage electrical systems, as applicableFabricate or modify lifting devices, towing attachments, shields, hydraulic systems, or other components according to blueprints or schematics, as requiredEducationHigh School Diploma or equivalent requiredCertificate in Diesel Technology or a combination of relevant education and experience preferredValid driver's license with the ability to maintain an acceptable driving recordDOT Medical Examiner Certificate or the ability to obtain oneCommercial Driver's License (CDL) preferredASE Certification preferredSkills3+ years of experience as a diesel and/or heavy equipment mechanic preferredExperience performing U.S. DOT vehicle and brake inspections strongly preferredStrong mechanical, electrical, and diagnostic troubleshooting skillsProficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, and ExcelBasic computer skills, including use of mobile devices (phone, tablet) and related applicationsAbility to read and follow verbal and written instructionsAbility to prepare routine reports, inspection documentation, and service recordsStrong attention to detail, time management skills, and ability to work independently in field environmentsPhysical RequirementsWears and maintains required PPE (personal protective equipment) to ensure safe performance of job responsibilities as required.Regularly stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to effectively oversee shop activities, inspect equipment, and access work areas.Regularly stand or work on feet for extended periods and walk across uneven terrain to monitor shop operations, inspect equipment, and move safely within job sites.Regularly work in a shop environment and in proximity to moving mechanical parts, heavy machinery, loud noise, dust, fuel/oil, and other chemicals as required to oversee maintenance and repair operations.Regularly use hands to feel, handle, and manipulate objects, write, and operate a keyboard and/or mobile device to complete documentation, communicate, and perform operational tasks.Regularly communicates (talks and hears) and uses visual acuity to exchange information, coordinate work, and maintain safe and effective job site operations.Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance, to support the handling of parts, tools, and materials.Occasionally work while sitting for extended periods in an office environment to perform administrative, planning, reporting, and coordination tasks.Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, overtime, and weekends;
