This role goes beyond day-to-day support and into operations, architecture, project management, and mentoring.Office Location New York, NY or Rockville, MD Summary of Essential Job Functions As a Senior Systems Engineer, you’ll lead the design, implementation, and ongoing support of secure, scalable IT systems for clients in dynamic, multi-site environments. You’ll act as a trusted advisor to clients, and a technical escalation point for internal teams.Core ResponsibilitiesArchitect and maintain Windows Server environments and Active Directory services (DNS, GPO, File, Print, IIS), including upgrades, patching, and domain restructuring.Design and manage virtual infrastructure (VMware ESXi, Hyper-V), ensuring availability, scalability, and performance.Lead deployment of IT infrastructure hardware, including racks, cabling, UPS, and supporting systems.Oversee business continuity and disaster recovery strategies, including backup administration and planning.Evaluate and implement new technologies; provide strategic recommendations to clients.Provide Tier 3 escalation and technical mentorship to junior engineers.Maintain comprehensive client documentation and IT governance processes.Occasionally participate in after-hours or weekend work for critical upgrades or incidents.Work closely with the security team to implement and maintain security tools, including firewalls, endpoint detection and response, SIEM, next-gen anti-virus, EDR, application control, and access controls. Assist in vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and security audits. Respond to security incidents and participate in incident handling procedures. Monitor alert queue and respond or escalate as needed. Qualifications Windows Server, Active Directory, PowerShell scriptingTCP/IP networking, LAN/WAN architecture, VPN, VLANs, DNS/DHCP, firewalls, routing/switchingVMware ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V virtualizationShared storage systems: SAN, iSCSI, RAID, LUNsSaaS ecosystems: Office 365, G Suite, Okta, Slack, ZoomCloud platforms: AWS and Azure (compute, storage, IAM, networking)RMM tools: ConnectWise, Kaseya, NinjaOneEmail systems and mail flow troubleshooting (including anti-spam gateways)Cybersecurity fundamentals (incident response, web proxy, MDM, EDR tools)Microsoft Entra, Office 365 and Microsoft Intune proficiency Microsoft PowerApps and Power Automate proficiencyStrong oral and written communication skills Excellent customer service and strong organizational skills required Ability to effectively work in a team environment to accomplish assigned tasks Ability to work onsite and lift up to 50 poundsBachelor's degree from an accredited four-year university or equivalent experience is a plus Minimum of 5-7 years of hands-on IT experience (MSP experience preferred)  Soft Skills Project Management: Lead infrastructure projects with minimal supervisionClient-Centric Mindset: Understand client needs, proactively communicate, and deliver with empathyAgile: Comfortable with ambiguity and evolving environmentsCollaborative Leadership: Willingness to guide junior team members and foster knowledge sharingWhy Join Ventucom?Be part of a team that supports organizations doing meaningful, world-changing workCollaborate with passionate and skilled engineers who value technical excellence and creative problem-solvingEnjoy a culture of respect, flexibility, and growth, where work-life balance isn’t just a buzzwordMake a visible impact on client systems and internal capabilitiesAdditional Information We value growth potential as much as checklists.
