National Equipment Planning Director
Position Overview:The National Equipment Planning Director will be responsible for establishing field yard organizational systems, tool & equipment lifecycles, equipment specification, rent vs. own analysis, capex justification, leasing selection, and equipment commissioning/decommissioning. This role involves means and methods planning, selecting, proving out and integrating tooling/equipment and methods to job sites nationwide while ensuring systems are established to maintain compliance with OSHA and DOT regulations. The ideal candidate will have experience in the construction and steel erection job site environment.Key Responsibilities:Accountable for the equipment (including fleet vehicles) inventory, tool inventory, consumables inventory, implementing standardized yard procedures, and ensuring cleanliness/organization and safety protocolsCoordinate with yard manager/supervisors to maintain accurate inventory and optimize space utilizationManage equipment lifecycle, including 5-year strategic planning, annual budget planning, capex justification, leasing, utilization, maintenance, repair, and commissioning/decommissioningWork with equipment suppliers/rental companies and contractors to ensure targeted equipment uptime, competitive rates and field supportDevelop a business case for each capital expenditure and ensure the ROI for the investment is achieved (post-implementation tracking)Develop and coordinate training on equipment handling, safety, and operational proceduresCollaborate with pre-construction, project management, fabrication, erection, quality, and safety teams to align to project goals and executionMonitor capex project costs and schedules to ensure alignment with capital expenditure plansDevelop KPIs (key performance indicators) and maintain routine reviews/reportingParticipate in industry groups to stay current on best practices and industry trendsTravel to field yards (regularly) and job sites (occasionally) to ensure operations are compliant to expectations. Travel does not exceed 50% of time annually.Qualifications & Experience:Bachelor’s degree in industrial or construction engineering, construction management or equivalent 10+ years job experience in commercial construction and/or field steel erection, or a related fieldStrong knowledge of construction equipment, methods and practicesProficient in 2D & 3D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and project management toolsProficient in Align Technologies/Toolwatch or other equipment tracking softwareExcellent problem-solving and analytical skillsStrong communication and collaboration abilities across project management, operations and field erection teamsUnderstand safety standards and regulatory compliance in industrial and job site environments.
