Key Job Responsibilities Build, operate, and roll out global DWDM networks. Drive scaling of current DWDM designs to meet customer demand. Create processes to support operation and deployment of the DWDM network. Collaborate with other networking departments on new designs. Ensure the DWDM network adheres to defined network standards. Review and implement changes on the DWDM network. Drive operational excellence projects to improve DWDM network quality and reliability. Troubleshoot complex problems and develop innovative solutions daily. A Day in the Life Engineers in the InterDC Optical services team have a broad range of responsibilities, from hardware and software development, cross-platform integration, and production transition of optical platforms, to day‑to‑day operations, on‑call duties, sustaining engineering, operational automation, and vendor performance management. They own long‑term strategic views, partner with customers to understand immediate and future needs, and influence technology and design choices in a high‑impact, cost‑effective manner. About the Team The InterDC Optical Services team develops, delivers, and supports optical products used to interconnect AWS Data Centers and PoPs, ensuring diverse supply and lowering data transfer costs. The portfolio serves a broad customer base, primarily transporting core and border traffic across multiple regions worldwide. With a current network size of >10 Pbps of inter‑data‑center traffic over >30k devices, the team builds and evolves highly available, secure, and scalable transport for global customer fabrics. Basic Qualifications 1+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell, or Perl. 4+ years of experience rolling out and operating large DWDM networks and optical technologies. 3+ years of experience with optical planning and modeling tools. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of network design, protocols, and troubleshooting. Experience working in a fast‑paced, rapidly changing operations environment. Experience with network, system, or software architecture. Thorough understanding of deploying and operating high‑capacity DWDM and optical network systems. Advanced automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell, or Perl. The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
