Patient Account Specialist

The Patient Account Specialist is responsible for performing duties in the billing division pertaining to all aspects of the revenue cycle, which includes but is not limited to extracting and updating appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes, data entry, denials, patient account research, and insurance follow-up. The position will also play a key role in the daily entry of inpatient and outpatient charges for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology which includes Maternal Fetal Medicine, General Obstetrics and Gynecology, Urogynecology and Minimally Invasive Gynecological Surgery.This position is responsible for assisting with physician and staff education based upon EVMS Medical Group Compliance Guidelines, coding guidelines and results of chart audits in conjunction with the Billing Manager. The position will assist with conducting internal departmental mini-audits to ensure inpatient and outpatient medical records contain sufficient documentation to justify the frequency and type of services being billed to carriers and patients.Enter inpatient and outpatient charges adhering to carrier regulations.Research and assign the appropriate CPT & ICD10 code based on the provider’s dictation, and other medical records to ensure that the most accurate combination of codes is used for each patient.Audit and review the appropriateness of the CPT and ICD10 coding selections, assuring that the appropriate link between the two coding procedures has occurred.Work closely with providers to ensure notes are submitted in a timely manner for claims processing. Follow up with providers on missing Information when the documentation provided does not support the services rendered.Respond to denials provided by EVMS Medical Group. Review tasks in the EHR daily. Maintain close relations with hospital staff and referring offices, reaching out to obtain required documentation as needed.Authorize procedures and verify benefits with appropriate insurance company.Must possess the ability and skills to work independently in a team environment.Maintain compliance with Policies and Procedures within the Department of Generalist OB/GYN, Minimally Invasive and Gynecologic Surgery, Urogynecology and Maternal Fetal Medicine.Assist with conducting regular coding education and training classes for providers and staff in conjunction with the Billing Manager. Make recommendations on implementing procedures for compliance within the department setting.Provides feedback to management as to problem areas and when proper information cannot be obtained from providers.Responsible for staying abreast of insurance carrier regulation changes and informing providers, management, and staff of such changes.Ongoing review of compliance, coding, and billing, literature and guidelines effecting OBGYN practices.Functions as liaison between the providers and EVMS Medical Group Billing Office to communicate and/or educate regarding the appropriate use of the procedural and diagnostic coding process.Performs other duties as assigned.1 year experience working with CPT & ICD 10 coding in a surgical setting required. Prior experience with OBGYN coding and billing strongly preferred. Current CPC certification or ability to obtain certification within one year of employment, required.US-VA-NorfolkThe Financial Analyst for the Department of Medicine works effectively with Department/Division Administration and the clinical operations teams to ensure overall financial performance within budgeted parameters and Department/Division forecasting and analysis. This position serves as the internal financial consultant to the Department/Divisions, and coordinates with both internal and external resources to provide the appropriate analytical and strategic support for manager decision making. The Financial Analyst is involved in annual budget preparation and long-range financial forecasting for the Department/Divisions, prepares appropriate budget variance analyses to drive any corrective action, assist with preparing necessary business plans for capital expenditures or new clinical programs or new businesses. The Financial Analyst is responsible for assisting the Department Administrator II in continuous improvement of the financial performance of the Department. This portion helps identify and assists in solving problems which present as barriers to effective financial performance.Ensure the Department is effective and responsive to the financial reporting needs of Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS), the EVMS Medical Group, Chair, Senior Leadership, faculty members, and staff, as well as external organizations.Assist the Department with financial management, budget development, monitoring data and comparing financial results to projections, identifying revenue and expense variations, trending patterns for the department’s fiscal operations.Assist the Department in the development and maintenance of all operational and capital budgets for all Departmental Sections Academic (Core, GME), Clinical, and Research.Assist the Department in the development and maintenance of annual operating budgets, including EVMS Core, GME Office, EVMS Foundation, and the EVMS Medical Group.Responsible for the Financial Reporting of the Department/Divisions.Prepare, maintain, and report wRVU calculations and physician productivity to provide regular productivity measures to clinicians.Maintain open lines of communication with Chief Administrator and Division managers by attending interdepartmental meetings to review financial issues related to their divisionsDevelop strategy to effectively communicate financial and clinical productivity information to faculty and staff that aligns with Department’s strategic priorities. Meet regularly with the Chief Administrator and the Department Administrator II to keep up to date on issues.Review and approve expenditures within the guidelines set forth by EVMS and/or the Department. Notify Department/Division Administrator when overspending is eminent. Monitor financial statements for EVMS and core accounts for accuracy and spending within budget limitations. Proactively meet with department administration to review department budgets and resource needs.Works with Department Administrator II to provide financial and administrative oversight, ensuring compliance and adherence to EVMS policy and procedure.Assist in ensuring fiscal order and cost analysis with each reporting entity, identifying and engaging problem resolution as needed (T&E adjustments, reclasses, accruals, payments, etc.)Provide an insightful resource as to EVMS Medical Group clinical data for the physician providers by analyzing monthly Medical Group billing data including clinical productivity, charges, collections, service analysis, provider performance, income data, payor mix, etc.Implements appropriate accounting procedures and reporting designed to identify and track both revenue and expenses associated within the Department/Division.Assist the Department in developing Financial Business Plans, prepare pro-forma reports for Medical Group Finance Committee, and/or hospital presentations, or to other institutional committees as needed.Develops standard operating procedures in association with the Department/Division management to enhance efficiency in the financial management of the Department/Division.Assist the Department in maintaining financial activity as it relates to activity on clinical contracts, provide timely information to leadership and vested personnel (effective date, termination date, renewal terms, and monetary escalator, as applicable).Responsible for the coordination of the Department/Division’s materials management and procurement functions through EVMS procurement process.Able to develop budgets for contracts and grants.Review and approve changes in time and effort (T&E) based on budget availability and appropriateness of the change. Performs other business-related activities as may be requested by the Departmental Chief Administrator or Department Administrator II.Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting required.Master’s Degree and/or CPA credential preferred.Experience PreferredThree years relevant experience in budget and finance required.
