Activity Assistant
Summary: To assist the Activity Director in appropriate activity programs, using the philosophy, objectives, and policies of the facility as well as Federal and State governing regulations.
Reports To: Activity Director

Professional Qualifications:
1. High School Graduate or its equivalent is preferred.
2. Must possess a current health certificate/examination as required by State agencies.
3. Must possess valid Indiana driver’s license.
4. Knowledge of arts, crafts, music, and group activities.
Required Skills and Abilities:
1. Must be mature and emotionally stable.
2. Exhibit understanding of resident population.
3. Ability to cooperate with other staff members.
4. Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.
5. Ability to interact with others in a tactful manner.
6. Ability to accept responsibility.
7. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationship with community and volunteers.
8. Willingness to work flexible hours to accommodate special resident events.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Maintain records relating to activities and resident attendance.
2. Complete all appropriate paperwork as assigned, on a timely basis.
3. Encourage residents to participate in meaningful activities.
4. Substitute during absence of Activity Director, if directed to do so.
5. May perform personal services for individual residents such as writing letters and shopping, under the direction of the Activity Director.
6. Assist with seasonal activities and bulletin boards.
7. Complete initial activity interest assessment.
8. Be familiar with the policies and procedures of the facility.
9. Maintain the activity areas in a neat and orderly manner.
10. Maintain community involvement.
11. Conduct activities away from the facility for residents, if requested.
12. Assist Activity Director in integrating the activity department with other departments
13. Assist in orientation of new volunteers.
14. Assist in implementing policies and procedures which relate to activities.
15. Assist in conducting group or individual activities.
16. Participate in resident care conference, as needed.
17. Assist with maintaining adequate supplies and maintaining equipment in working order.
18. Assist with newsletter as directed.
19. Attend and participate in mandatory training, inservices, and educational activities.
20. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Administrator.
Physical, Sensory, and Communication Requirements:
1. Ability to read and write in English, ability to communicate with residents, families, personnel and support agencies and ability to remain calm under stress.
2. Bending, lifting, walking, grasping, fine hand coordination, ability to distinguish smells, tastes and temperatures, ability to discern colors, ability to hear and respond to pages.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $14.00 - $17.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40.00 per week
