Tax Analyst(Data Analyst III JP33031)12-month contract to startNorth Chicago, IL(Hybrid-T, W, TR onsite, M&F remote)$58-$63/HR based on benefit selection  Orion Group is seeking a Tax Lead for our pharmaceutical client to support payroll tax compliance and operations across the U.S. and Puerto Rico. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll tax processing, reporting, and filings, while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.This is a high-impact position requiring strong analytical skills, deep payroll tax expertise, and the ability to partner cross-functionally to improve processes and drive operational excellence. Key ResponsibilitiesOversee payroll tax compliance and operations for U.S. and Puerto Rico payrollEnsure accurate and timely payroll tax payments, filings, and reportingMonitor and interpret federal, state, and local tax regulations, implementing updates as neededPerform audits of payroll tax registers and filings to ensure accuracy and complianceReconcile state withholding and unemployment taxes (monthly, quarterly, annually)Manage and ensure timely tax deposits and filings, including amendments and correctionsPartner with payroll team to support end-to-end payroll processing activitiesCollaborate with internal stakeholders and third-party vendors (e.g., ADP) for tax setup in new jurisdictions (FEIN, SUI, etc.)Lead year-end payroll tax activities, including W-2 processing and RSU vesting supportTroubleshoot and resolve system and tax calculation issuesIdentify opportunities for process improvement and automation within payroll tax operationsSupport continuous improvement initiatives to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and complianceProvide guidance and mentorship to payroll team members QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Tax, or related field7–9+ years of payroll tax experience, including U.S. and Puerto Rico regulationsCertified Payroll Professional (CPP) or equivalent preferredStrong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and compliance requirementsExperience with Workday Payroll and integration with third-party systems (e.g., ADP)Advanced proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office toolsStrong analytical, problem-solving, and process improvement skillsProven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentExcellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across teams Key Traits for SuccessHigh attention to detail and accuracyStrong ownership and accountabilityAbility to work both independently and cross-functionallyContinuous improvement mindset with a focus on efficiency and automationCustomer-focused with a drive to exceed expectationsPeople are our business worldwide Orion Group was founded in 1987 and is now one of the largest, independent, international recruitment companies.
