Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided.Major ResponsibilitiesFacilitate student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with college policy and course objectives.Make optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.Supplement and alter, where appropriate, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials.Maintain accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.Engage with students proactively and regularly in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and lead to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College.Demonstrate evidence of developing and implementing teaching strategies focused on engaging students with their learning.Interact with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complying with college policies, guidelines and expectations.Maintain a safe, quality educational environment.Must demonstrate the ability to promote an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our students and employees in which every individual feels respected and valued.Instruction & Student LearningTeaches assigned courses as scheduled. Designs curriculum embracing diversity, in all forms, to foster talent in students while modeling inclusive teaching strategies, with an understanding of the socio-cultural issues of traditionally underrepresented groups.Considers individual differences of students in order to design and support a range of appropriate learning activities.Participates in the identification of students with academic or other needs and responds by utilizing an appropriate resource.Uses technology in a manner appropriate to the nature and objectives of courses and programs and communicates clearly to students the expectations concerning the use of such technology.Keeps accurate and appropriate records in accordance with departmental policies.Maintains attendance records, determines and submits grades timely, and in accordance with established policies and procedures of the College, and communicates progress feedback as well as other relevant information to students throughout the semester.Distributes and maintain accurate syllabi that incorporates departmental, college, cross-college, and instructor requirements.Conducts classes punctually and in accordance with the prescribed meeting schedule. Employs appropriate assessment techniques to measure students' performance in achieving course goals and objectives.Engages in periodic meetings with the department, Lead Instructor, and Chairperson relative to teaching duties and professional development.Student Engagement & AdvisementCreates a positive classroom atmosphere that encourages active and collaborative learning, student effort, academic challenge, student and faculty interaction, and learner support.Uses technology to assist in communication with students. Encourages a sense of community among students for learning both inside and outside the classroom.Advises potential or current students within the discipline about the program, career, or transfer options available to assist with degree completion.Refers students to appropriate student and academic support services available at the College or in the community.Education And ExperienceMaster’s degree in engineering; or master’s degree and 18 graduate semester hours in Mechanical Engineering.All educational degrees must be from a regional accredited institutionMust have passion for teaching in engineeringPossesses excellent communication skills (verbal and written)Ability to use innovative teaching techniquesFamiliarity with distance learning and willingness to use technology tools in instructionAbility to use collaborative learning techniques and student-centered methods of instructionAbility to work well with students and colleagues in a multi-ethnic/multi-cultural environmentMust be able to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignmentsPreferred QualificationsMinimum two (2) years college teaching experienceMinimum two (2) years related industrial experienceMust have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction.Ivy Tech Community College is an accredited, equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
