Position Type:Athletics/Activities/Extra Duty/ co-curricularDate Posted:6/6/2025Location:District officeDate Available:08/01/2025Learning Strategist - Read by Grade 3FLSA Status: Exempt Created: 5/23/17Safety Sensitive: No Last Revised:DEFINITION: The role and responsibilities of the Nevada Kids Read Learning Strategist as identified in SB 391 and the Nevada Administrative Code (NAC), Chapter 388, Sections 3-5 - September 2016:DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Professional Development: Completion of Required Professional Development in the following areas:Components of the Nevada State Literacy Plan (2015) [emphasis on the Elementary Section]National Standards for coaching concerning literacyMethods for effectively delivering and receiving constructive feedbackEffective implementation of the Nevada Academic Content Standards in the English Language Arts for K-3Requirements of the Nevada State Educator Performance FrameworkEvidence-based best practices for instruction and intervention concerning literacyMethods for screening and intervention concerning dyslexia and other reading disabilitiesEffective implementation of the required Nevada Kids Read reading assessments: Brigance Screener III (K) & MAP K-3 reading assessmentsAssist the board of trustees of Mineral County School District in preparing a plan to improve the literacy of pupils enrolled in k-3 Facilitation and/or Delivery of Required Professional Development for K-4 Classroom EducatorsComponents of the Nevada State Literacy Plan [emphasis on the Elementary Section]How to effectively deliver and receive constructive feedbackMethods for maintaining collaborative and reflective communicationEffective implementation of the Nevada Academic Content Standards in the English Language Arts for grades K-3Using student data to improve instruction concerning literacyEvidence-based best practices for instruction and intervention concerning literacyMethods for screening for and intervention concerning dyslexia and other reading disabilitiesEffective implementation of the Nevada Kids Read Assessments Additional Duties:Oversee the assessment of all kindergarten students at your site within the first 30 days of the school year using the Brigance Screener III and MAP (optional) assessmentsOversee the assessment of all students in Reading for grades 1-3 using the MAP assessmentsMonitor the development of progress monitoring plans for every student identified as "deficient" in readingSystematically monitor the progress of students identified as "deficient" in readingOversee the assessment of all identified students during winter and spring benchmarksEnsure that parents and/or legal guardians are notified within 30 days of the determination that a K-3 student is struggling in the subject area of readingEnsure that parents and/or legal guardians approve of progress monitoring plans for struggling studentsProvide instruction and support for the parents and guardians of pupils who have been identified as struggling in the subject area of reading.Provides leadership and support to the board of trustees of Mineral County School District in preparing a plan to improve the literacy of pupils enrolled in K-3Facilitate and/or deliver the professional learning topics required for RBG3 K-4 classroom teachersParticipate in all required professional development areas that have been identified in the Nevada Administrative Code, Chapter 388 QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (KSAs are the attributes required to perform a job; generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education, or training.)Knowledge of:Nevada State Literacy PlanNational standards for coaching concerning literacyNevada State Educator Performance FrameworkIntervention methods concerning dyslexia and other reading disabilities Skill to:Delivering and receiving constructive feedbackMaintain collaborative and reflective communication Ability to: Develop a system to monitor student progressAssess all identified students during winter and spring benchmarksRequired Certifications and LicensesRequired: Elementary Certified Teaching LicensePreferred: Training/Experience in Early Literacy Teaching TechniquesExperience and Training:Training/Experience in Early Literacy Teaching TechniquesPhysical and Mental Requirements:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
